What is my logon name when a workstation logs onto my Win10 computer?

I have a Windows 10 Professional that is part of WORKGROUP. When I log onto the computer, my full name comes comes and I enter my password (or use the four digit logon). I am the only user as well as administrator.

Here is where the question arises: if I want to sign onto my computer from another computer on the WORKGROUP, I need to use my first name and the password for my Microsoft logon - and I only discovered this by trying many combinations.

So, where might I find these credentials? And is there a place where I can read about this part of the security?

    Many thanks...

Regardless if using a local account or Microsoft account to sign in to Windows, your username in all networking purposes is your user profile name. You can find it on each Windows computer by opening Command Prompt when signed in to your account, and entering command whoami:

That is the username for that specific computer. The password is the one you use on that computer, again regardless if you are using a local or a Microsoft account.

    Kari -

Yes, that did give the name of the computer and who is signed on. I know how to find the computer name; just not sure where to get the name of where the name(s) of users are located. Under Users, just my full name is present - not the user name - here I have been using Windows for more years than I want to admit and cannot remeber where the user name is located.

You will only find user names, not the whole credentials. I really donīt fully understand your question. Are you logging in via RDP? The list of user names can be obtain typing net users in CMD.

My problem/question arose when I setup Samba on my local server and was trying to access my Windows 10 computer from my Macbook computer. As expected, I was asked for the User and Password. Since when I'm at the Win10 computer, it comes up with my full name: Todd Cary and asks for a password - no problem.

But to login via the Macbook, I had no idea that the user is "Todd" since I have never used that, nor needed to. So, I kept trying different Users and Passwords until I found the combination. Where could that be stored?
