How can I get a stable network (Home Use)

I have Windows 10 Home Version 1903 (OS Build 18362.657)
I just got a Netgear Nighthawk router so I can take advantage of my cable modem's high download speed.

I am a real novice when it comes to networking PCs. To the point, I have 2 PCs, one I have named TOWER and the other DESKTOP. When I need to shutdown and then turn my PCs back on, OR, if I lose power and the PC restarts, at the moment the tower is not fully discovering BOTH PCs on the network, so, I am interested to know what I can do to make that connection more stable so that in ANY case, no matter what the reason, that my PC will recognize BOTH PCs on a more stable basis without having to totally upgrade my OS to do it!

Haven't found any reason not to be fully up-to-date yet.

But the mention of power failures does suggest having a UPS battery backup for both/all computers to avoid the sudden power bumps or shut-downs giving time to do an orderly shutdown. There's also the BIOS setting to stay shut down upon power failure which is usually the default. It's also important to determine which computer should be turned on first then turn on other/s, it's about the timing and speed of the boot process, no two computers will boot at the same speed or time, involved is boot drive speed and what is loading at boot up.

You are not alone in this matter. Scroll down the list of posts until you find "Computer connected to a wireless network doesn't appear on the network." Read all of the replies and then go to the tutorial entitled "Share Files and Folders Over a Network in Windows 10."

It can take 20+ mins when a pc comes on before its picked up often pinging it will wake things up

To distinguish between it not discovering the other network computer & it not showing up in File explorer, Network section try entering the path to a shared folder in File explorer's address bar manually by clicking on the existing address bar entry then typing in its place -
\\DESKTOP\SharedFolderName
\\TOWER\SharedFolderName
using one of the shared folder names that you have set up already

If you can see the shared folder then it is a different issue and you could, if you wanted, 'map' the shared drive/folder so you had something to use in future while the fault was apparent
