The thing about Miracast is that it has to be supported by both devices. My Panasonic Viera is the same, it has DLNA which 'Cast to..' requires but is not Miracast capable so I can't connect my screen to it.
I can use Miracast between two PCs, one with the Connect app running, but as they both have similar sized screens that's not particularly useful. Miracast does allow mouse/keyboard interaction though, so it's a bit like using a remote desktop.
Thanks- so the fact that I get 'Remove...' and no ability to select is simply a poor way of Windows telling me it's not capable of connecting for the purposes of projection. (= Absence of positive message).
I was also wondering how it managed to add the PC (Thinkpad) I'm using to the list of devices... hmm, could I project my PC to itself... the mind boggles. I can't see a use for that except I suppose it's now discoverable by OTHER devices.

There is another thread,with a substantial discussion, related to this topic. I started it, asking for help with problems casting to my smart TV. It will take me some time for me to to absorb it all ---- it seems there are a number of different ways to achieve the same thing, if you can get them to work. I am not sure which route to go down.

- Open the classic Control Panel .
- Navigate to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center.
- On the left, click on the link 'Change advanced sharing settings'.
- On the right, expand the section All Newtorks .
- Click on the link Choose media streaming options... under Media streaming.
