I think that I'll just wait for MS to totally solve this issue. Your pertinent and helpful suggestion to enter the other computer's name or address into the File Explorer search bar solves my immediate issue (it's certainly easier than re-booting both machines!). I truly appreciate your time and expertise. I'm going to mark my network problem solved - now if MS will only solve their network problem.

If it connects by entering the computer name or the IP, then you could create a network shortcut (or map a network drive) so you can browse the other computer by double-clicking on the link.
