Can't share newly created directory with XP machine

I've been using an older XP machine on my home network for years and have never had a problem with using shares on my "main" Win 10 machine. (Win 10 - Version 1903 Build 18362.592)

I recently had to uninstall and reinstall a program on the Win 10 computer due to needing to change directory names (long story). Since the change, I can no longer get the new directory to share with only the XP computer (I have other Win 10 computers on the same network and they see (and can use) the new directory without any problem.

The thing is, the XP can still see (and use) other shares on the same Win 10 computer. I've tried everything I can think of but no go.

Welcome to the forum. Can xp see the share or does it get an error trying to connect what are the settings on the share and NTFS permission?

It doesn't even see the share but sees the other shares (and can access them) on that computer

Settings are the same as the other directories that are shared - Everyone has R/W access (private network so I'm not worried about security)

XP obviously knows how to find the W10 PC as it can see its other shares and connect to them. Try explicitly typing the server and share name into XP's Windows Explorer's address bar, eg." \\W10-PC-name\Share Name"

Can you access the share then?

Yes, that works. So I rebooted the XP computer and now I see that share just fine.

    Thanks!

Just curious as to why the XP machine required for a new share as I have DISCOVERY on the Win10 one

My guess, the Master Browser was not up to date and didn't know about the new share. A Master browser election took place when you you restarted the XP machine, bringing it up to date.

Except I tried rebooting several times with no improvement until I manually entered the network path (\\<Win10 pc name\<share name>. Once that was done, it started working. I just like to know these things should they pop up in the future

Ah well, it is working now and I thank you and Samurai for the help

I run a mixed network with XP, Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 machines (some are VMs, though that should make no difference in practice). I've always found XP to be the most difficult to get networking properly.
