When I bought my new house and had my internet transferred, I told them that I was going to be providing my own router and "only needed a cable modem from them".

Of course, when they showed up, the brought a combo cable modem/wifi model. I asked them to put it into bridge mode and shut off the wifi. In addition, my cable package includes a media gateway device that is also a cable modem/router, although they couldn't use that as it only supports 100Mbps and I have 500Mbps. Guy tried to tell me that he could NOT turn off the wifi in this device, and that leaving it on would cause NO issues with my wifi. He left, I connected to it and shut off the wifi.

I run Google Wifi Mesh at my house, and that's in standard NAT mode. Been very pleased with Google wifi. Once my free 2 years is up on my modem, I'll buy my own and switch it out.

Are you suggesting that I disable the cable WiFi which I can. Then the only WiFi that I would be betting is from my Asus Router. What do you suggest?
Yes, I suggest you disable the cable modem Wifi.

There's a missing piece that might need to be considered -

Many modems are not just that, but an eMTA - Embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapter for VOIP.

    FWIW.

Bridge mode has no affect on VOIP. My eMTA modem is in bridge mode with VOIP working.
