Backup to external HDD on network

My PC OS is Windows 10 v17763. The OS is installed on a SSD drive. D, E and F SATA drives are also on the computer. The PC is connected by Ethernet to a Netgear Nighthawk R7800 router by ethernet. A 4Tb external HDD is connected to the Netgear router by USB. This drive is mapped to the network in windows 10.

When I try to use Windows 10 to mirror image onto the external HDD on the network, Windows 10 sees the drive and begins the backup but fails shortly after starting.

Any help to do a backup to the network HDD would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for the anticipated reply.

    Happy New Year!!

Hi thira. Welcome to the TenForums @thira

Are you using the WIndows 7 backup software included in Windows 10?

I would try Macrium Reflect or some other tool like it. Macrium is free and I use it regularly to backup over my network.

    I would try Macrium.

More reliable and it is maintained regularly.

What ever tool you settle on create and test boot media, in Macrium's case they call it Rescue Media.

The free version will backup at the partition level, you can even create schedules. They have a set task to backup the partitions to start / run windows.

The purchased version allows Incremental backups, Image Guard to backups on PC and folder and file backups. There are a lot of other features shown in tutorial.

Start with free and see if it meets needs, if you want to buy they run regular sales, Black Friday it was 50% off. Usually can get 20%
