    dial up speed with broadband

Yeah. That's what I say. What? I am using windows 10 Home edition version 1511 HP laptop 64 bit 8 gb ram 500 gb hd. I recently reinstalled windows and am experiencing very slow and sometimes incomplete downloads. I checked errors and read that my connection shows "Getchar Socket abruptly closed". I am lost here. I have current updates installed. Have troubleshot everything I can think of. I've run virus scanner. I've updated drivers. I've stopped any unnecessary services. I've uninstalled unused bloatware and programs. I first noticed my page loading time taking longer than before but it's terrible now. I have checked the hd and it checks out. the laptop is only a year old. I have searched online for an answer but it's all been Greek to me so far. I'm the only user so I can't blame anyone for this problem but me. Any helpful advice will be greatly appreciated. P.S. I posted most of this before. Now I've updated to the new version 1903 of windows 10.. But it's the same. I did a speed test and got 0.13 as download speed and 0.12 upload speed. I'm at my limit and don't know what to do. please somebody help.

Resetting the ISP modem to factory works for me when my speed drops off. ISP's send updates to there modems and sometimes packets get corrupted and dogs the modem. There should be a rest on the modem. Hold it in for a bought 5 to 10 seconds then release and it'll reset to factory.

Right click the Network icon on the desktop. Properties \ Click "change adapter settings" \ right click the active adapter, the one without a red X. Select Status and look under Speed.
