PC and laptop cannot see each other on network.

I checked previous posts but they seem to be slightly different to my problem.
I have a PC and laptop, both on W10. Laptop is on wifi. They cannot see each other. Both machines can see other devices on the LAN. Both machines can print to a network printer.
When I open "Add devices and printers" on the PC, it shows the laptop as Not connected. When I open it on the laptop, it shows the PC as Not connected.
So Windows can obviously see both machines but they will not communicate.
Both machines have Network discovery and File and printer sharing turned on.
    Any ideas anyone?

Hi, the last poster with this problem (and there are now frequent such posts- please feel free to search) was using a 3rd party firewall and had to adjust rules in that.

Are you using a 3rd party firewall?

Lots of resources and a youtube video etc you can use to check here:
Lets put together a troubleshooting list for Windows networking

History- was your network working perfectly, and then something happened (what?) or have you just configured it for the first time?

I use Kaspersky but I have tried turning off the firewall on both computers.
The network was working fine but the laptop is my wife's and I'm not sure when it lost connection with the PC. She only tends to use the printer on the network and that is working fine. I only found this problem when I tried to transfer a file between computers.
When I run diagnostics on the PC, I get an error as follows: "file and print sharing resource (LAPTOP) is online but isn't responding to connection attempts." It then continues "The remote computer isn't responding to connections on port 445, possibly due to firewall or security policy settings, or because it might be temporarily unavailable. Windows couldn't find any problems with the firewall on your computer."

I have checked everything I know of. Clearly I am missing something.

All networks have to be set as 'trusted' except the internet.
The packet rules for local services TCP and UDP should be allowed.
I have checked Kaspersky firewall on both machines and changed the Local services TCP and UDP from Blocked to Allowed. I can now see the laptop from the PC but I still have the problem with the laptop which cannot see the PC. As I stated, I disabled the firewall to no effect. As far as I can see, the network is trusted.

Thank you so much for your reply.

    a. Uninstall Kaspersky to eliminate it. Quickest way to test the effect of that.
    b. If all then works, turn to Kaspersky's forum
    c. If no change, work thoroughly through previous resources.

Uninstalled Kaspersky on both machines with no effect. Still cannot see PC from laptop. Double checked sharing settings but all are good. No idea what to do next.

Did they use to see each other, then not, or is this a new network configuration?

If the former, did this change after an update or other event?

Try to reset the network: Windows + I > Network and internet > Resetting of network [or similar, I´am translating].

The only changes I can think of are W10 updates. It is difficult to know when it started because it is my wife's laptop and I rarely use it. All her data is on my PC for ease of backup and she found the problem when she could not access her files.

    - - - Updated - - -

I realise that is an option but I read somewhere that resetting the network should only be tried as a last option.
