    How to find out if I am Wifi-connected to Router or to Repeater?

    The Wifi network here consists of a Router and a Repeater for it.

    Assume I am sitting with my notebook in the about mid between them.

    How can I find out if the computer is currently connected to Router or to Repeater?
    ...without physically touching the devices (e.g. disabling the repeater)?

    Hi there

    @Peter

    By convention the wifi / ssid (network name) when connected to an extender usually has the name -EXT appended to it -- certainly if the extender / repeater was set up via default settings.

    So for example if the SSID of the main wifi is DOG if connected to an extender the SSID name will be DOG-EXT. Just check the wifi SSID's you can see when clicking on the wifi icon at bottom right of a screen on the Windows taskbar.

    For commercial Offices / Hotels etc you can't rely on that method though . Note the repeater doesn't have to have the name with the -EXT suffix but it's typically usual.

    If you can logon to your router you should be able to see some sort of network map showing physical connections. To logon to a router (home ones at least) usually use a browser with an address like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 -- user id is usually admin and the password is probably taped to the router and will be something like password unless you (or someone else) has changed it.

    For example

    This shows that I've got two computers attached to an extender EX7000.

    Ok, thank you.

    But what if the network do NOT follow naming conventions?

    Is there e.g. a way to detect the MAC Address of the device (Router or Repeater) to which I am connected?

    The router configuration page should tell you what is connected and how it is connected. I assume you are talking about your home LAN.
