You do not have permission to access \\XPS Contact... Why not?

    Hi everyone,
    Specs;
    DELL XPS 15 9560
    W 10 Pro 64 bit version 10.0.183
    4core i7 7700HQ 2.80 GHz
    Bios version 3.0
    16GB RAM
"You do not have permission to access \\XPS
Contact your network Administrator to request access". I have been trying to solve this for a very long time, it seems that it is a common problem yet I cannot get it fixed.

    I had thought this (
No permssion to access from one computer to the other
)was going to work but it seemed to evolve into a problem of not seeing the computers in file explorer also some directions did not work on my computer.

    In a nutshell I have (2 x) W 10 laptops and
(1x) W 7 PC over a private network WORKGROUP named the same. W 7 PC denied access to both W 10 laptops, one W 10 (DELL) can access PC but not the other W 10 (XPS), 2nd W 10 laptop (XPS) can read and edit both W 7 and W 10.
I am foggy on details because of the duration (it has been ongoing) and the number of edits to settings but it has in the past under varying circumstances worked. I have made and deleted user accounts, changed account types, created and deleted passwords.

The present state is as follows

Sharing options
Private: Turn on network discovery & Turn on file and print sharing are selected, Turn on automatic set up of network connected devices is checked.
Guest or Public: same as above
All Networks: Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the public folders, Enable file sharing for devices that use 40- or 56-bit encryption &Turn off password protected sharing are selected.
Media streaming options are: Allowed access using default settings, both computers and many unknowns are listed
I have shared the folders and in some cases at multiple levels (that is Documents and Users folders and the C: drive it's self) to everyone with access to the network.

The DELL W 10 with COMPAQ access only has a password the others
do not. The XPS W 10 with access to both gets into the DELL with no problem. (Password protected sharing is off)
    Actions taken:
I have just turned off network discovery, renamed the network and restarted al 3 computers and got the same results.

    I have verified from

They were, then from the tenforums post linked at the beginning of this post I changed
    Function Discovery Provider Host
    Function Discovery Resource Publication

to Automatic Delayed start, again no effect.

I also made a rule in the incoming firewall for a range of IP addresses.

I have forgotten some I'm sure, any further suggestions?

    Is there anyone willing?

    Thanks
    Chris

One step at a time first you don't share drive c remove the share by default c is shared as c$ which needs an admin username and password this is because sharing c is crazy any hacker or malware would love it.

Second windows does not like having no password it a security risk.
You mentioned users folders they have special permission even on the pc as admin you have problems accessing other users folders.

To make it simple create an account on the PC your connecting to with admin rights use same name and password as the PC your trying to connect from and logged in.

Now create a folder on the PC you want to connect to outside users folders create a share give everyone permission on the share and set the NTFS permission to everyone. You should now be able to connect to that folder. Do one PC let's do it slowly one at a time

I have unshared all folders on the three computers and have created like accounts with a shared password on two. As far as the folders location, where besides the desktop can I put this folder, it will be very large at times?

Could it be inside the Users folder alongside Chris, Administrator and Public?

Sorry for the weeks absence, I have had to do a system restore from a back-up. I am now back up and running.
I have as you said created like accounts on one Windows 10 laptop and the W 7 PC, they have the same account name and use the same account password. Both computers have a folder of the same name shared to everyone and the like named account, password protected sharing is off and it works great in both directions on both computers.
I tried the same thing with computer #3 (W 10) and it was a no go, I can get from there to the other two but I could not get into the 3rd computer from either fully functioning computers. Somewhere along the road I read of a similar problem where they said they could not gain access by clicking the computer's icon under network they could gain access by putting in the complete path in the address field. I tried this on the W 10 laptop and it worked "Network\\Computer name\Shared folder" I tried this on the W 7 PC and it did not work, the message read Windows could not find ... check the spelling and... Very odd.
You had said to go one share at a time, what do you think and how would you have proceeded after the initial 2 computer share that was successful.
    Thanks
    Chris

I have tried this "Network\\Computer name\Shared folder" a second time on the W 10 laptop and it looks like it was a one time thing, I can't do it again! Again Odd.

No it does not work. The IPs are randomly generated in any case, I would have to go look it up each time, even then that would be an improvement.

It DID WORK once, how is that? First time I tried it, I had a bit of a twitch when I clicked so it was more like a triple click which I've tried to recreate, LOL. It is one DELL that will not share but can see and access the other two.
