Remote Desktop: only on same wifi channel?

I have a notebook computer that I use Remote Desktop to log into.
My router has a 2.4G radio, and two 5G radios.
If the notebook and computer I am using Remote Desktop on are both on the same radio, it works fine.
But if the notebook is on one radio and my computer is on another, it does not find the notebook (even though they are on the same router)
    How can I fix this?

Are you trying to connect with the “Guest” network? Using either 2.4 or 5ghZ is not going to stop you from connecting through Remote Desktop, but the speed of the connection will if using 2.4ghz.

No, they are both logged in (our router doesn't allow 'guest' logins)
Not sure why it isn't working
