    How to access shared drives when VPN'd into network? OpenVPN


    Hi all,

    I've recently purchased a Linksys WRT-3200 ACM router and have turned on the pre-configured OpenVPN Server on the Linksys Smart-WiFi firmware. I have create a user profile and certificate, which I then shared with a client machine (Windows 10) and successfully connected to the VPN via OpenVPN Connect. I am able to ping devices on the network successfully.

    I can not, however, seem to access a shared drive hosted on a Windows 10 Pro workstation I cannot even see the computer on the network. I am able to access the computer / drive when on the same LAN without the VPN.

    I believe my OpenVPN server may be placing connections on a different subnet as my LAN IPs are 192.168.1.XXX and my IP address when connected to the VPN is 172.19.13.XXX, as defined on in the IP Address Range setup on the OpenVPN Server tab of my router. I cannot seem to change this option though, and I'm not sure if this even matters. Does anyone have any ideas? This is my first time setting up a VPN... Thanks in advance!

    So your never going to see the local 192 range pcs as your ip range is 172 your only way to see local pc is set them in the same ip range or turn off vpn

    Just looked at the manual and no mention of it. Its confusion as its designed not as a vpn were you connect to it and surf the net but a way of using a secure connection via vpn to get to your pcs at home have you tried away from home?

    Samuria, I did try connecting through my phone's hot spot with the same dilemma. Lol VPN needs two different names, one for surfing the web as you mentioned and another for connecting to your home / office network. That difference has caused a lot of headaches for me over the past week..

    In other news, I've opened a ticket with OpenVPN, I'll be sure to post the response here if I get this solved. Still taking possible solutions if anyone has ideas though!
