Mirror PC screen to Smart TV without required hardware?

    Hello,

Apologies if this has been asked many times before. My PC and Samsung Smart TV are connected by ethernet cables to my router.

My question is; is it actually possible to mirror my PC screen through the network to my Smart TV only by installing a software on my PC without having to buy any USB dongles or other required hardware for my TV?

You should be able to get help at Support | Samsung US but since that page shows a possibility of 7 types of TVs it's going to be important to know the model name and model number.

A bit of history, Notebooks/Laptops used to have VGA ports for connecting to a monitor or projector. Those ports have pretty much gone away in favor of HDMI ports that newer TVs have, may entail using an HDMI cable but location/distance will be an issue.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry I wasn't clear, I don't want HDMI cables, just mirroring through ethernet cables and a required software on my PC. I take it this isn't possible, even on modern Smart TV's?

Mirroring PC screen to smart tv requires Miracast, which is WiFi only. And not every WiFi adapter supports Miracast. You would need to get a WiFi adapter for your computer that supports Miracast.

Actually many recent WiFi cards do support Miracast. I can project from my laptop to another laptop using Miracast. See here to check if your PC is Miracast-capable.

Check Miracast Support on Windows 10 PC

The problem for JohnyGui is that to be able to use Miracast to connect to a TV, that TV must also have a WiFi adapter, and that WiFi adapter must support Miracast. While you can use DLNA to cast video to most TVs (Samsung included) very few (if any) support Miracast as well.

You'll need an adapter for the TV. Berton's link is for one such adapter, the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter.

PC desktop sharing over https through the Smart TV's browser should be doable. I have no experience in this but I would say its out there

Cast with Chrome or move to Apple hardware and enjoy Airplay.
