Bree: It is amazing that you found it doesn't even work any more on one's own PC! My PC shows the same results you got.
I have a test machine set aside that has every version of Win10 available to run, kept as Macrium Reflect images. It's System Two if you click 'My Computers' below my post.

For a quick comparison such as this one I used Macrium's viBoot to run each of its images as a Hyper-V virtual machine.

    1. These releases of Windows MS is doing twice a year are MAJOR changes to windows.
    2. The registry changes are beyond my capabilities to figure out....

Yes, a new release is a major change under the bonnet, even if it looks the same on the surface. I think you'll find from now on it's just one major change a year though. The second update in any year may be a minor update from now on, as the update from 1903 to 1909 was.

There are enough changes made in the registry to confuse anyone by simply signing out and back in again, so a major update is going to be near-impossible to fathom

Workaround by using Junctions to Shared Folders

I devised a workaround: Make Junctions to all the shared folders scattered around my PC (because ordinary shortcuts don't work for folder sharing purposes).

I put all the Junctions under one shared "Master" folder. So I double-click on "Master" and there are all the shared folders where I can see them, drag and drop to them, pin them to Quick Access in Explorer, etc.

So, the problem is solved to my satisfaction by this workaround, and I can now continue to use and enjoy Windows 10 without pulling my hair out. I've even upgraded to 2004 and my laptop still loves me.

FYI: I used the free Link Shell Extension program to be able to create Junctions from the GUI. This program saved my sanity and the author does a decent job of explaining what Junctions are on his site. Tip: To save your sanity, ignore the other things it can do and just focus on Junctions.

This is just a workaround, but the workaround works so well that I'm going to mark the issue "Solved" to give others hope and to get this workaround to as many users as possible.

Microsoft should acknowledge this bug and fix it properly, but after all this time, I'm not optimistic.
