Try this quick and easy fix
How to solve Windows Credentials log-in error when networking - YouTube
My PCs are old, and run various OS's XP Pro up to W10 Pro
I don't like logon passwords, so MS tells me to give up on networking unless I use Passwords.
Also the inconsistencies when networking between the OS's have been exceedingly frustrating.
I have now decided to ignore networking (win OS to Win OS) for file sharing.
INSTEAD
My router has provision for shoving a thumb drive into a USB slot.
I had tried using that for file sharing in the past, but had torn out my remaining hair with the delays/stutterings and inconsistencies in trying to get Windows Explorer (etc) to 'see' the folders on the thumb drive.
UNTIL
I discovered this
EF Commander Free
EF Commander Free Download
I have it installed on all of my PCs, and have the left panel always pointing to my Thumb Drive
It is lightning fast for loading , and never has trouble 'seeing' the thumb drive
I am never going back to win to win file sharing.
My hair is growing back,
Rob
PS I have a text file in the main directory on the thumb drive, where I transfer text for clipboard'ing
I will soon write a VB6 program that will reside on the Thumb drive, to grab clipboard on one PC, and put into clipboard on the other PC.
thank you zen10!!!! i just spent 4 days on the net, banging my head against walls trying to get my Win10 x64 PC to see the Win7 x64 PC. I could see drives one way, but not the other (from the Win10 to Win7 was "cannot connect...".) It worked for months then one day last week just stopped working. All i can think of is that the automatic Win10 updates (that we no longer have any control over) just caused the problem. I did all the usual checks of DNS flushing, all the sharing "Everyone" stuff. It was all already done as they were previously sharing a week ago of course, so nothing on the net helped. You fixed it! i just created an account here to thank you personally. Appreciate your post very much!
Cheers,

Helping a friend out,
4 Windows 10 computers (lets say A, B, C and D) on the same network under WORKGROUP. 1 computer (A)has a sharedfolder accessable from the other 3 computers. One of the 3 computers where replaced with a new one Win 10.
Now the strange thing:
the new computer can ping (A) but not access the shared folder unless the firewall is off on computer (A).
The two other computers can reach the shared folder without problem as before.
Checking the properties of the shared folders it is set as early mentioned with read/write access for everyone.
Dont know how to get around this problem. Checked firewall settings on (A) where 445 port is open for private network believe that is the port for smb.
Only other thing i can think of is that the new computer has a netbios name with - ex. New-pc
From all computers under explorer network all computers are visible.
(A) can connect to new computer after typning user and password.
Any input would be apreciated

Try enabling the Windows features: SMB 1.0/CIFS Sharing Support
Well. I have a Desktop with Win 7 Enterprise Edition and 6 fysical HDD. I can connect to all from my Windows 10 laptop except to the H drive.
I have tried all kind of things, but, although the H drive is configured exactly as the D, F, G, V drives, I always get the permission message when I try to open the H drive.
No idea what goes wrong.
Anyone ?
