Android hotspot, cannot connect to this network

    1st post from complete novice.
I updated my Lenovo Yoga 730 to latest win10 1909 I think and now can't connect to my Android phone hotspot. I tried to connect to my wife's Android hotspot as well without luck.
All the solutions for "Cannot connect to this network" you on the Web require the removal of the network adapters to then a reboot to force a reinstall. My concern is they are not specific about what adaptor nor will it allow a new download.
    Please help.

Just to clarify. I use the hotspot on my Android phone to access the internet. I do not have any other internet access. I this was working OK and now it does not. It coincides with the latest win10 update but may not be due to it. in

Windows is talking about the drivers that allow Windows to use the android device as a modem.

    Welcome to Ten Forums Arthur

Have you tried verifying your network connections to see if the Windows upgrade messed up some of your settings? Can you test the hotpot connectivity with another phone?

    Arthur,

Go to your computer maker's website to download then install the latest wifi adapter driver [even if it is the same version number as the current one, just in case the current one is corrupt].

While you are there, check for any updated bios.

If you need to post back, include these factors in your post -
1 Does your phone's wifi signal appear in the available networks to connect to?
2 How many bars does the signal show?
3 Tell it to try to connect and then watch as it does so - what actions does it do / not do?
4 Can anything else connect to your phone's hotspot?
5 Can your computer connect to another other wifi networks? [you might, for example, go to a cafe that has a wifi network for customers]
6 Does your phone continue to connect to the internet on its own?
7 Have you tried a direct USB cable connection to your phone?

    Arthur,

    That Cannot connect to this network message is frustratingly uninformative. I have seen it myself and I fixed it with the network troubleshooter at Settings, Update, Troubleshoot, Internet connections. The Troubleshooter will disable then re-enable your wifi network adapter but that will not be a problem. {Disabling does not necessitate physical removal of anything, it's all just software jiggery-pockery}

I bet you will succeed in connecting another computer to your phone's hotspot but, if not, it would point to something like having accidentally restricted your hotspot to named equipment only [for example, my hotspot is deliberately limited to connecting to my router & each of my own computers as a defence against intrusion].

So try the troubleshooter and, even if it fixes the problem, don't forget to check for updated drivers & bios on your computer maker's website.

Hi Arthur, I realized one item I had asked you to test wasn't likely very clear, however I feel is somewhat important.

Could you please attempt to connect to your phone's hotspot using your wife's phone or vice versa? Please make certain that you are careful to utilize the same location with phones that you used while attempting to have your PC connect.

This proves the phones capability to successfully produce a hotspot and that this hotspot has internet connectivity. Thanks

Perhaps 'somewhat important' is understated. Obviously, establishing that the hotspot being produced in this scenario "has internet connectivity" is a critical part of testing.

That's why you listed it as #4 in your list of tests. Arthur can utilize both his wife's phone and his own as test instruments, but I'm confident you are well aware of that, Arthur may not have considered that aspect. Please carry on.
