After PLEX update program unusable, can't find server

The last time I logged into PLEX, I saw the message to update. I did. Now PLEX says my Plex Server is unavailable. After trying everything I could think of, I decided to completely uninstall PLEX. I'm not sure I accomplished that correctly since I cannot reinstall PLEX MEDIA SERVER or PLEX. I have never understood the difference in these two downloads. I never get any options to specify a new PLEX server or any other options. Can someone walk me (not a geek) through the uninstall and the download and reinstall? I did have the foresight to backup the entire PLEX MEDIA SERVER folder, but I need a step-by-step tutorial, please

I had to use the local IP for mine to see the media that is stored on my NVIDIA Shield.

The PLEX forums are going to more helpful.

The difference between Plex and Plex Media Server is that the server is installed on the computer where you have your media libraries. Plex is client software that is installed on Windows computers that you wish to watch your media on. The client accesses the media stored on the server and displays that content on the local computer. The client doesn't have to be a Windows computer, you can get client software for Roku, PS4. Mac and other systems.

Generally speaking, you have one server that is accessed by multiple clients.

Thanks to bro67 and strollin for the comments. I've tried installing PLEX MEDIA SERVER with no success. I never see the PLEX server screen during setup. And I'm not sure I got the problematic version completely uninstalled. Can I go to the Update file and attempt to install the previous version?

The Plex Server does not have a screen, you do have to log in through either the Plex web portal or a Client app to set up the server. Like I stated before, the Plex forums are going to be your best source of info. I have the Plex Pass lifetime from when I was using a SiliconDust tuner to record local sub-channels for those that I was not getting through my tv provider. I cannot remember how long ago that I did actually stream something through out Network with Plex.

If I don't get the screen asking for my Plex server, how do I get Plex to find my files?

When you tried to uninstall Plex, did you stop the server first? You may need to manually stop the server before it can be uninstalled. Look at the System icons on your Taskbar and see if there is a Plex server icon there (orange arrowhead on black background). You may need to click the Up arrowhead to see all of the System icons. If you find the Plex icon, right click on it and select Exit. Once you've done that, then try uninstalling and re-installing.

Thanks, strollin. I had not closed out Plex Server and I found 2 Plex update services running also. Even after all that the new install did not give me the screens described and my PLEX was tagged as "unreachable."

To be sure of what you're doing, after you uninstalled Plex from your computer, you tried to install the Plex server there, correct?

Did you download the Plex server from here: Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More

Yes, I'm using my home PC [Windows 10]. My uninstall and reinstall were both to this computer. My download was from the site your cited.
