Are you running any third party security software on the Mac? What version of Mac OS are you running? What is the mfg and model of your Gateway/Router and is it from your provider? If “Guest”network is enabled on your Gateway and the Mac is connecting that way, it can restrict sharing.

All computers are connected with full credentials no guest access. I'm running Mojave 10.14.6 on a macbook pro 13" 2017

I don't think my router is the problem as my wifes 2015 macbook no longer connects to my windows desktop now either. Not so much of an issue for her. Other than her wanting to grab a movie/tv show from the media drive. I have no doubt its a simple click of a setting but i'm just at a loss at the moment.

Try doing a full network reset on the Windows machine under System > Network. It will possibly fix it.

No luck, so frustrating. I'm 100% sure it's windows error and not mac as nothing has changed since the windows update. I can connect to both macs from desktop but i can't connect to desktop from any the macs.

The network is visible but gives me connection failed. Usually just goes straight through to the my shared folders/drives on my desktop.

When you click on “Connect As” in Finder, does it give you the credentials box to log into a Windows computer? Also try using Go > Connect to Server” in Finder with “smb://ip of the computer” to see if you can connect that way.

Yay! I've only gone and fixed it!

For some reason my computer is refusing to allow "guest" sign in via the MacOS so i double checked my user account settings and looked if I could tweek something in there. I clicked on the "guest" username and it allowed me to "change password" for some reason. So I changed the password and logged in and put the password.

It's totally backwards and makes no sense. But thankfully all my drives/folders are now available again on my MacOS laptop. No more transferring large data via the portable hard drive!

Just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped. It's nice to have a community that you can go too when you're banging your head against a wall in frustration!
