Remote Desktop Color Depth - how to adjust

    Hi,

I'm attempting to increase the color depth of a remote connection but not getting anywhere.
    Google offers two suggestions:

    1) On the RD Session Host server, open Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration. To open Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, point to Remote Desktop Services, and then click Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration.

But after I get to "Administrative Tools" there is no "Remote Desktop Services" to be found.

2.This Group Policy setting is located in Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Remote Session Environment

But I can't find where this is or how to get to it.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hello @James1093

    1. Click on Start menu, then type in remote and click on the suggested "Remote Desktop Connection" => Show options / Display tab and the rest ones.

    2. (It does not work on Win10 Home) Click on Start menu, then type in gpedit and click on the suggested
"Edit group policy" => Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Remote Session Environment.

Thanks HeM. I was able to navigate to the right place with option 2 , but didn't have a clue after that! Will leave it as it is. It mucked up after a Win update so thank you, Windows! I wish you'd leave well enough alone.

Here are what the maximum display settings look like on my PC. YMMV for you, depending on source/target machines.

    Hi Ed,
I see the same thing too. So maybe it's not colour depth. Prior to the last "upgrade" the remote desktop was the normal blue colour. Now it's a very bright blue.
Attempting to alter it brings up "Display settings cannot be changed from a remote session".
