New mini usb wifi adapter not picking up wifi. Win 7 64bit.

So brought a new mini usb wifi adapter for this desktop. The few ethernet cables we got are taken so i needed something and went with this wifi adapter. Plus if i can get this to function then i can pick up my printer too from this usb wifi.

Right now i am using an ethernet cable but i won't have it for long.

I have been home for few hours and in that time i have struggled to get this to work.

Im trying to work out how to add photos so give me time. I have not used this site as i do not have windows 10 yet.

    Hi TechSeven

What USB wifi did you buy? Drivers loaded?

To insert a picture you can you can grab an image with the snipping tool and simply paste it.

Along the top of your post you will see five icons and if you click the centre one you can insert a file.

When you say the wifi won't work I assume you have disconnected the LAN cable. LAN cable usually takes priority over WiFi.

With device plugged in does it show in your device manager under Network adapters? Any errors on device in device manager?

Hello Ken, thank you for the quick response.

"What USB wifi did you buy? Drivers loaded?"
    - I brought it from Amazon. It came with a mini cd, and my desktop was able to download the drivers straight from the cd.

"Along the top of your post you will see five icons and if you click the centre one you can insert a file."
    - Thank you for that, i really like that.

"When you say the wifi won't work I assume you have disconnected the LAN cable. LAN cable usually takes priority over WiFi." -Well before i plugged this ethernet cable, i had absolutely no internet connection. So i plugged in the usb adapter like it said in the manual and inserted the cd and followed the instructions.

"With device plugged in does it show in your device manager under Network adapters? Any errors on device in device manager? "
    - Hmm, when i completed downloading the drivers, earlier on today it did say connected but then i could not browse the net.
But now it does not connect at all and there is no connection.

Here is the item i purchased.

Looks like the drivers are not installed.

You are showing "Other Devices" in Device Manager, I assume under Network Adapters your device is not listed?

If you remove USB Wifi do these devices under "Other Devices" disappear?

I can't see instructions for setup but there must be a routine to install drivers.

If not you can manual point Windows to the driver files. While this video says windows 10 the process has changed much since the beginning.

I like pasting in images I snip with the sniping tool or the free version of screenpresso. Capture and paste.

"You are showing "Other Devices" in Device Manager, I assume under Network Adapters your device is not listed?"

That is correct. My adapter is not listed under network adapters.

Yes i was showing other devices, so your right, that probably has nothing to do with the usb adapter. It was there before i purchased the adapter. Good look out.

If i remove the usb wifi, the devices under other devices do not disappear.

I was wondering if i could use my ethernet cable to get online on my desktop and somehow download the driver thats needed and install it?

It's strange, because i did download the drivers from the cd. Hmm.

You must be right. Maybe the drivers did not install?

Okay then the other devices are your USB adapter. To confirm you removed the USB adapter and these devices remained in device manager.

Sure you could go online but if you have CD there must be a Setup to install these drivers.

and lets get those "Other Devices" identified.

In Device Manager, right click device you are having issue with, click “Properties”, click on “Details” tab, in “Property” box use the drop down to select “Hardware IDs”, copy and paste first line in “Value” box to Google. Google can usually tell you what device driver you are looking for.
