Relocated PC can't connect to internet

My family has recently moved my brother into an assisted care facility. Upon setting up his Windows 10 PC, he admitted that he had forgot his password/pin ID. We clicked on manage login, hoping to be presented with screen for changing his password. Instead, a message appeared indicating that he was not connected to the internet. So now we're caught in a vicious circle: He needs to be logged in to connect to the internet, but there's no way to log in because he's forgot his password. Any suggestions?

PS - The facility does provide WIFI.

The facilities WiFi should allow you connection to complete the task of Manage Login. Ask them for a Password for your brother, even if it's a temporary Guest PW, and assistance with the set-up. I'm sure they have done this before and would be more than happy to help you.

Then, you can reset his password after verifying his account.

So you're suggesting that the facility WIFI manager will be able to provide a temporary Microsoft password that will allow him to login and access the WIFI setup app?

No. A PW for the WiFi, then go thru the "I forgot My Password" options in Windows.

As I understand it he can't login so can't to the internet even if he knew the password. The problem is you can change the ms account on another pc on the website but then it still won't login as it can't connect to the internet to pick up the new password. There are a couple of options first reset password on the net then if you can plugin network cable and hopefully it will connect failing that you will have to take it back to the original site were it would connect to known WiFi. Create a local account for safety then put it back at new site and it should work any problems you can use the local account. We assume there is no other account on the pc you can use.

That's correct. His brother forgot the PW, But he and the machine are at the facility, and as of his post#1 had not set up any WiFi connection, so, of course, he got the "No connection" error when he tried to do the Manage Logon to reset the password. Hence, my suggestions in post #2 and #4. Otherwise, he's gonna go in circles. Has to get to a Net connection before doing anything else. He could take it back home with him, fix it, and bring it back. Somehow get a net connection. Don't see any mention of another PC.

Thanks to both of you for your help. Taking it back to the former location is not an option. I'll work with the technical people at the facility to see if they have any suggestions.

It's difficult to believe that this isn't a more common problem. I can see the value of maintaining a local login to at least get non-internet control of one's machine. Then it seems that you have access to WIFI setup, and can change the appropriate settings, then go back and change your network login. Seems like only maintaining a network login, then forgetting it gets one into this infinite loop of death. Is there some kind of external software that will allow me to change/add a local login?

You don't need to sign in to connect to the WiFi at the new location. There is a network icon at the lower right on the sign in screen. Click on it and you get the same list of available WiFi as you see if you click the network icon on the task bar. You will be able to connect to the facility's WiFi without signing in. You just need to ask their technical people for the WiFi password so you can enter it when you try to connect.

Clicking on the network icon on the sign in screen gets you the same screen as shown in Option Four in this tutorial. You will then be able to follow the rest of the steps in Option Four to connect.

    Never get a Microsoft account.

    There's no benefit.
    There's no gain.
It's all pain. As you've discovered.

And it's all the worse for having to discover this after moving to an assisted living home.
