Exclude computer on network from seeing a shared folder

    Dear All,

    Hope you are all well.

I have spent over 8 hours trying to research to sort this issue out and honestly I am defeated and frustrated!

We have three computers on our network.

Computer A (Main computers which has the shared folders)
    Computer B
    Computer C

When I share folders from Computer A, and put share permissions and security permission as "everyone", like the following screenshots:

    https://www.screencast.com/t/uKUfnth7aT
    https://www.screencast.com/t/ia9fKflNcs

This works absolutely fine and Computer B and Computer C can see this shared folder.

However, we want to exclude Computer C from seeing this folder. So what I did is, Computer B has one user called "Test User", I then created "Test User" on Computer A, and assigned share permissions and security permissions for "Test User".

However, now on Computer B I cannot access this folder and keep getting an error:

    "You do not have permission...."

Every tutorial I watch or read states that the main computer needs to have the same user as the computer you are sharing too. I have tried every alternative and cannot figure this out.

Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to TenForums.

Try this, see if it works.

When making your connection, choose the option "Connect using different credentials" like this:

Exclude computer on network from seeing a shared folder-im1.jpg

Then, on the next screen, make sure to specify Computer name backslash user name like this:

Exclude computer on network from seeing a shared folder-im2.jpg

Let me know if that helps.

    Hi,

Thanks a lot for your prompt response!

However, this is the error we get:

    It is bizarre.

Maybe I'm missing something. I don't see any error in that screenshot.

Maybe I should have been clearer. I am unable to change that "Folder" field, it is greyed out.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for your response.

I do NOT think the issue is mapped drives personally.

The issue I believe is when we add the local user account on Computer A which matches Computer B, and then add that same user under permissions, Windows cannot detect this.

Because if we enter "everyone", it works fine.

See Post #6. You map the drives when sharing them. Also see Post#6 at this thread for registry to check. Mapped Network Drive Not Showing in Windows 10/8/7 - EaseUS

    Thanks for your response back.

Still no luck unfortunately. As stated I can map drives with no issues.

It is the accessing that is an issue when permissions are not working how they should.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

See post 6 and 8. See the info about checking the registry and also how to check permissions.
