The recent (12 Sept.) MS .NET updates may have caused an issue?

Your motherboard is 1 Gbps on ethernet and you should be getting around 980 Mbps on a healthy connection...

Not every adapter or chipset is going to get that. The Internet speed can be different than LAN speed due to a number of factors. If this issue was before the last updates, the diagnostics can show what may be causing it and not the OS.

My Ethernet cable is not causing the problem. I just plugged it into my laptop and the Speedtest showed 239 Mbps down and 253 Mbps up. On this computer it currently shows 38 down and 1.16 up. Something in my Windows 10 Pro 64bit system is causing this problem. I might look at my restore points and see if a restoration will help.

    Hold on a second...

@alkaufmann - What are the speeds allowed by your ISP, i.e. your plan?
@Infrasonic - The OP's computer wasn't even mentioned. How do you know that it is an actual 1 Gb port?

Think we all need a baseline here. Too many cooks in the kitchen.

    1) Model of the OP's computer and Ethernet port specs.
    2) Service level provided by your ISP up and down.
    3) Name and model of router that is wired to the computer in question with the latest firmware.
    4) Unplug your modem, router and computer.
    5) Restart modem first, initialize, then router, initialize, then computer to the desktop.
    6) Perform two speed tests from two different websites and evaluate.

    We can go form there!

    Thanks.

I made the assumption the OP was discussing the computer in their 'my computer' profile...

You assumed correctly. I need to update that profile but the motherboard is still a ROG Maximus VI Hero with an Intel I7-4770K cpu. The lan led is green which means a 1 Gbps connection and that is confirmed by the leds on my router.

    1. It is a Asus ROG Maximus vI Hero motherboard with an Intel I7-4770K cpu. The network adapter is Intel Ethernet Connection I217-V, The speed is 1 Gbps full duplex and I ran all the Intel device diagnostic tests and they all passed.
    2. I pay for a service called Internet 300/300 which means 300 Mbps down and 300 Mbps up. I have a direct fiber optic cable that goes from my modem to my ISP.
    3. I have a Netgear X8 Nighthawk R8500 router and the latest firmware is installed. I have rebooted the router but that makes no difference.
    4. The Optik Modem is working just fine with all the other devices, more computers, TVs and telephone, so I won't bother unplugging that. That would not help anyways, it has battery backup.
    5. I have performed many speed test to different websites and this computer always returns a very slow result. I just performed the speed test that is built into the Netgear router and it showed 333 Mbps down and 273 Mbps up.

I am thinking of trying the windows insider version to see if that fixes the problem. I'll sleep on it.

I think I need to apologize to everyone for wasting your time. I just uninstalled a beta version of CFosSpeed, which is a program to improve your speed, not make thing worse. As soon as I did that things went back to normal. I did not think it could be causing the problem because I have been using it for years. I can't really blame CFosSpeed either because they did warn me about installing their beta program.

I tried adding to reputations but this website wants me to spread it around!

    @alkaufmann -

cFosSpeed? Never heard of it - until now. And a Beta at that!

cFosSpeed - Faster Internet access with Traffic Shaping - cFos Software

Stay away from all programs that "wish" to enhance your internet speed.

Kindly mark this thread "as solved" by clicking on the button, so that others will know that there is closure.

    Thanks!

    Take care.

You did not waste anyone’s time. This will help someone down the road, who,ay have the same issue or a head scratcher.
