Network Discovery in Network and Sharing Center resets

    Hello.
I got a laptop a week ago with Windows 10. This morning when I tried to copy a document from the main PC (Windows 7) via WiFi, an error appeared "Network discovery is turned off. Network computers and devices are not visible. Please turn on network discovery in Network and Sharing Center". I did that, but it immediately reset to off.

    I checked the tutorial section:
    * DNS Client, Function Discovery Provider Host, Function Discovery Resource Publication and SSDP Discovery are all running.
    * Option 2 (To Turn On or Off Network Discovery in Network and Sharing Center) resets to off as soon as I close the window.
    * Option 3 (To Turn On or Off Network Discovery for All Network Profiles in Command Prompt) returns "No rules match the specified criteria.".

I've mapped the folder on PC to a network drive and can now access the documents, but I'd like to make the laptop discoverable on network as it was.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello, @McYork and welcome to WTF!

Do both systems have the same PC name? If so make them different. Same for your network name.

Shut down the Windows 7 system. Reboot your Windows 10 system and try applying the changes again.
Does it retain it's setting, without the Windows 7 PC being on?

Also, if the above doesn't work -

    Let us know.

    Thanks.

    Thank you for your advice.
The problem was Windows Firewall Control. After uninstalling it and re-setting the firewall rules, everythng is back to normal.

Not surprising. I'm glad that the link helped, rather than have me elaborate.

If you feel that you problem is resolved, please mark this thread "as solved." You will see the button for doing so.

    Cheers!

    Hello,
I have tried to solve this problem now since I got a new laptop, that's nearly a year now.
One laptop has now Windows Home 1903, all updates, connected via Wifi to the network. One PC with Windows 10 pro 1903 all updates, connected via a cable to the network.
I have checked all the things listed above, also mentioned in the link, but:
    1. My laptop does not even see my PC
    2. The PC sees the laptop but has no access to it.
    Desperate

    Please advise
