I also added those two keys:
PortsInternetAvailable = Y
UseInternetPorts = Y
in addition to Ports = 5000-9000

My dear friend, you almost saved my life !!!I hadn't been able to install a printer for 4 years and I was forced to print with google cloud print.I had searched the net for all the solutions to my problem and I had tried them all without getting results. And now, thanks to you, in a couple of minutes and with a simple change of a registry key everything miraculously returns to work. Thanks, thank you very much !!!
Happy I could help you, it took me a while to figure out what was going out (but not 4 years ok )
If you want to play, here is the explanation of those registry keys:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...ective-binding
For me for instance I changed the value of PortsInternetAvailable to N so that it is allocating ports outside the specified range.
Have fun!
It is best to enable printer as a Local on the local PC, open Remote Desktop Connection
Enter the address you want to connect to
> Click Options
> Click the Local Resources tab
> Place a checkmark in Printers in the Local devices and resources section.
> Click Connect, enter your username and password details if needed
Allow it to bring up the desktop
On the remote PC, make sure if the printer is visible as an icon
> In the Control Panel - Printers screen
If the printer installed correctly then you’re finished!
In case the printer isn't installed correctly, it is best to do the following.
Firstly verify if you need to install the printer driver on the remote PC by checking that the printer driver is the problem or not. The simplest method of getting the printer drivers installed in the right place in Windows is by installing a dummy local printer on the Remote PC.
> Click Start - Printer & Faxes
> Click Add Printer
> Click Next
> Select Local Printer
> Uncheck Automatically detect and install my plug and play printer
> Click Next
> Select a Printer Port: select Use the following port: FILE: (print to file)
> Click Next
> Click Have Disk
Browse to the location of the printer driver for the printer you are trying to use, select the INF File and click OK
You will most likely need to download the printer driver from the manufacturer's website to the remote PC - store them in a folder somewhere convenient ex. on desktop
> Select the printer from the list and click Next
> Give the printer a name
> select that it should not be the default printer
> Click Next
> Select Do Not Share This Printer
> Click Next
Do not print a test page (it’s only a dummy printer)
> Click Next - Click Finish
Windows will now copy all of the required drivers and completed the install.
Disconnect from your remote desktop connection session by clicking Start > Disconnect
> Reconnect to the remote PC through
> Check the Printers list – you should have 2 printers installed now
(the dummy one and the real one)
You will be able to tell the real ones from the dummy one due to the reason that the dummy one will have a little image a disk beside the printer icon.
Now you'll be able to connect to a remote printer easily... if again some problem persists, please do let me know. I will try my best to answer you with all your questions.. Thanks.
This thread was hijacked. Can we get back to the op's question? I have the same issue. I can connect to other printers on other machines hooked up to the server but not this one. I get the same error. I have plugged the printer directly into 2 computers and loaded all drivers to run it. It prints perfectly but I cannot access it when it is on a remote computer.
