Get many "this site cannot be reached" errors

This has been going on the last 2 days. I've restarted the modem, no change. Often the site just comes up by itself. This are not tiny one-person web sites. My DNS servers are 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.4.4

This puts me in a difficult situation. Yesterday I had to get to my bank (which is gigantic). And I got the site was down message (The webpage might be temporarily down) Today I need to pay a bill and got another site down message.

This happens both with Chrome and Opera.

However while I get the site down message on my computer, the site is available on my phone (which uses both WiFi and mobile data connection).

Is there something else I can use to diagnose besides ipconfig/all?

    The sites are all pingable.

On occasion this also includes gmail.

Have you tried flushing the DNS resolver cache? using command prompt:

    Code:
    ipconfig /flushdns
In the past when I've had issues like these it has worked, often in combination with a disk cleanup (temp files and temp internet files) and also browser cache cleanup.

Hi, you might try changing your DNS servers, although noted you can ping the sites.

A program such as DNSjumper (free) is helpful and lists the Dns servers in order or speed, as well as offering adresses for the well-known ones.

It does occasionally happen in the UK that a bank's site goes down.. reportedly.. although I've only ever seen that once briefly, and I use several.

Clearly you can phone and check.

When certain sites are inaccessible, can you still reach others?

What is your ISP, and your connection like? Restricted/metered? Have you run a speed check?

When you have difficulty reaching a site, have you checked if you have other internet traffic? (task manager) And is your connection shared (are others using it?

When a site appears down, have you checked with another device- PC or e.g. phone on Wifi?

Plenty of ideas if you e.g. Google
    can't reach some sites

I can reach many other sites, some very small even (blogs). Today I needed to pay my phone bill (Metropcs-t mobile). Couldn't get to it. Then....after many many tries it came up. After that, a very large govt site was "inaccessible". But now it is. I can reach all of them via my phone.

I just want to know what tools I can use to further diagnose the issue.

    ipconfig/flushdns did not help.

but /release and /renew seems to have worked.

Sad I didn't try these earlier.

well,it's back. Getting "this page isn't working".

The bigger question is: why should I have to do release/renew?
