Intel 82579V WIn10 onboard LAN doesn't automatically load drivers

Hi, I had the exact same computer setup on WIndows 7 and the system worked flawless, after upgrading to Windows 10 there seems to have been a problem with the driver for this.

The driver does not load correctly and I have to load up device manager, and then network adapters > Intel(R) 82579V and right click it and click scan for hardware changes and it will load the correct driver.

Before I learnt to right click it and scan hardware changes. I would just restart the machine and on restart it will load the driver fine. It used to be annoying before, now less so. It behaves like an old classic car, it doesn't like a "cold start" and I have to manually get it to re-check for drivers.

Any ideas to fix this? this is a desktop computer and I thought about just installing a new gigabit Lan card, and hoping it would just fix it, but it's a waste of money and expansion slot just, so I am looking for a windows solution.

I have tried uninstalling the driver and let windows manage the driver. I can see on the intel website that it does not make a specific w10 driver for it, could that be the issue?

Sigh. I might as well just buy a gigabit lan card with a different chipset that Windows is happy with.

there's a 25% chance that the drivers load up fine on bootup. I don't reinstall the driver each time, i just right click and press "check for hardware changes" and within a millisecond it just fixes the connection and the red cross is removed from the hardware entry.

A hack-ey way to get around this would be to create some sort of script that checks for hardware changes and make it launch at startup. Or maybe even a button that's fixed to the desktop that does it on command.

You have not completed your system specs so I don't know what motherboard or computer you have but I'm using a
Gigabyte X79 UD5 that has the Intel 82579V NIC and I have had no issues with startup with Windows 10 x64, all versions to date.
The driver I am using is version 12.17.10.8.

Where did you get the driver you are using.

Mine is a asus p8z68-v pro/gen3 it has the latest firmware installed.

The driver was originally installed by Windows. It worked fine in windows 7, I noticed it playing up since installing windows 10.

Driver version is 12.15.31.4

I realise my driver is older than yours, i tried to update. It wont let me and suggests I update windows first. Was trying to do that but I have an old version of vmware and that needs updating before windows will do anything saying that VMware version I have isn't compatible with my installation of windows.

Perhaps that is the culprint, VMware installs a few phantom NIC devices on the computer, perhaps they're conflicting with the actual NIC.

it didn't work

I am trying to find the driver version 12.17.10.8 as per pbcopter's suggestion. But I can't find it anywhere.

I am updating to windows 1903 now to see if it fixes anything

I can't update windows, because it has vmware workstation 8 installed which was from windows 7 (before upgrade). Windows update requires me to uninstall vmware, unfortunately the uninstall file for it was deleted from the add/remove list during the upgrade. So now I'm facing having to reformat everything and restart.

I think I inadvertently figured out the case. I have vmware workstation 8 installed on my PC. It was on from win7. It installs virtual ethernet drivers. it may have conflicted with the actual NIC drivers.

I couldn;t uninstall it, because the uninstall was broken. But updating vmware workstation to version 15 solved that problem. Then I was able to run windows update.

I'll post back reuslts. Windows 10 May 2019 update has installed driver 12.17.10.8

Though, I dont think the earlier driver version was the issue. Otherwise there would be have been flood of issues posted about that (given that it's an OEM NIC on a motherboard and thus likely to be very popular.

I think the issue was because of the incomaptible vmware installed on it.

Hi, I have the same issue. I have a workaround that works.
1. you need to download the software DevManView ( Alternative to device manager of Windows )
1b. save it somewhere (I used "c:\devmanview\DevManView.exe")
2. open notepad and write the following two lines:
c:\devmanview\DevManView.exe /disable "Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection"
c:\devmanview\DevManView.exe /enable "Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection"

(you may need to add "" around the path name if you "installed" the program somewhere else and the path has a space)
2b. save the file as a .bat file (I called mine "network reboot.bat")
3. right click "This PC" on the desktop and click manage, go to the task manager and make a new task
4a. under general: should run wether user is logged in and with highest rights, and hidden. (make sure to untick: forget password)
4b. under triggers: on start or on log on.
4c. under actions: run program and link to the bat file (whereever you saved it)

Done
your computer should now reboot the network card every time it boots.
