The reduction I'm having is from use of a VPN for security purposes, I do not have any fault - using a VPN adds complexity to the system which slows the connection speed
Just wanting to give a quick appraisal with my issue here. I am still only having this issue on Windows 10. Windows 7 still gives me my full bandwidth, W10 does not.
Hi Kyle I came across a similar problem to you on virginmedias help forum Downgrade from 350 to 200, barely getting 100. - Virgin Media Community - 4154421 and theres a command promt command the guy used that seemed to cure his problem with windows 10 and vm= netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal i would assume that its run with comand pront with admin rights to work. might be worth a try to see if it works.
I've just posted a similar thread to this earlier. In the last 2-3 months my laptop no longer gets the 250-300mbps it once did, it now seems it cannot go above 150mbps. My Samsung phone sitting on the laptop can pull 380mbps from my Virgin Media 350mb connection. Connected the laptop direct to the router and its the same cannot hit above 150mb.
Hi folks
I suppose it depends on the VPN you use, the number of devices being used at your residence etc and the country the server(s) is / are located in.
Of course going through an extra layer will add some overhead but it shouldn't IMO be anything like 10% --that's a massive drop.
I use NordVPN and even on a W10 Virtual machine I don't notice any drop in the speed (at least not significant) (but I'm sure there are loads of other decent ones too) when I need to use a VPN and I can't say I notice any significant reduction in speed on HOST either or on Android phone - mind you I use it mainly for audio / video / sport stuff so Internet speed for multi-media live streaming really shouldn't be an issue at all -- even native -- i.e not using a VPN slow internet speeds should still be more than manageable for live streaming.
I think Nordvpn does all the encryption at both ends so your app gets everything in "plaintext" -- i.e unencrypted when you need to play the multi-media or use the relevant data.
I often use "SKY GO" via a VPN - performance is fine.
Seems to be some inherent problem (for the UK posters) with Virginmedia, W10 and VPN usage -- maybe Virginmedia is trying to detect VPN users and slow them down to avoid possible legal issues with UK users accessing blocked sites -- UK currently blocks more sites than N.Korea !!!!! although "Site Blocking" these days is really ineffective - zillions of ways to get round that nonsense.
Cheers
