Homegroup Problems - Help

I've updated two of four PCs from Win 7 home premium to Win 10. The Win 10 PCs can see each other on the network, are not able to access each other. Attempts to access results in an error message that reads to recheck the name of the device or check with the network administrator for errors. But, the Win 10 PCs can see and access files on the two remaining Win 7 PCs. And, the Win 7 PCs can see, and access files on the Win 10 PCs (as well as each other). Attempts to have the Win 10 devices join the homegroup result in an error message that no homegroup is available. There is no option to leave the homegroup and/or start a new homegroup. File and print sharing is turned on and permissions have been granted. Internet is connected and working on all four devices. Attempts to solve the file sharing problem have been made with the option of allowing Windows to manage the network and with the option to have users manage the network. So far, nothing has worked and I have run out of ideas. The four PCs absolutely must be able to share files routinely. Please tell me what I am doing wrong. Thank you.

For a Win 10 device to join a previously established Win 7 homegroup, do not go through control panel, networks etc. That does not work. If you try this path, when you enter your homegroup password, it will search for a while and then tell you that the homegroup does not exist.
What does work is this. Open file manager and right click on your documents. Then, click on 'sharing'. Next, select your sharing options. Then click on homegroup sharing. You will then get the option of entering the password from your Win 7 homegroup. From there, you are good to go. Doesn't necessarily make sense, but it does work.

If you're still having Homegroup problems, make sure the update KB 3081424 is installed. It cleared a lot of issues I was having between the Windows 10 machine and the others on the LAN that had not upgraded, yet.

Same problem I solved by turning off password sharing on all computers, then under manage windows credentials delete all homegroup elements registered there and then made a new homegroup with new passwords. All worked fine.

Where do you do these things specifically, i.e. turn off password sharing, and manage windows credentials?

click search icon, type "password" - then windows will suggest a number of options - select "synch your passwords on this PC", turn off
click search icon again, type "manage windows credentials" - windows suggest the right path - select it
highlight one PC at the time - you will get the option "edit" or "delete" - select delete (all must be deleted)
restart your primary (master) PC

click on search again type "network" - select "network and sharing center" follow the steps to join a home group. Microsoft will provide a Password - make a note of it - you will need it for the other computers.
now restart all other PC's you want to join the homegroup. Connect them to the newly created homegroup:
click on search of all other PC's, type "network" - select "network and sharing center" and join all other PC's to the homegroup of your primary PC with the same password that was provided on the primary PC.

Having similar issues. I have tried deleting all the files on both end from:

C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking

I have removed all entries from Windows Cred store

I have disabled shared passwords on both

I have recreated and rebooted about 5 times. Each time I can join the newly created but nothing ever shows up form one PC to another.

All network interfaces are private on both machines, firewalls are down, and IP6 is enabled (as well as IP4)

Homegroup is a big pile of steamy crap.

All I really want to do is make a file share that another MicrosoftAccount can access. Is that possible?

Hi, I do not find folders on my PC as you indicate on the path above.
I did not delete anything in the root or in folders. I used the tools provided by Microsoft. My home Network works perfectly - I am happy with it. For automatic synchronizing of files and folders on 2 PC and a network drive I use the commercial app Allway sync pro.

I too still have still not been successful.

I have deleted credentials, hidden PeerGroup files (i.e. C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking), etc.

I have a Windows 7 computer out of 6 total that still says its part of a Homegroup "owned" by one of the others in the house, even though that other one says it is not part of a group. For some reason I cannot get PeerNetworking Group service to turn on. I suspect if I can do that that I will be able to successfully leave the group. I have deleted credentials and PeerGroup files on this Windows 7 computer as well.

I am convinced that there are some files elsewhere that contain information about the HomeGroup but who knows where they are. If someone could tell me where they are and I could delete those then that would end the existence of the old Homegroup and I could create a new one.

Does anyone from Microsoft monitor these forums???
