Question on Security for Nearby Sharing and Workgroups

I am trying Nearby Sharing and I used the setting of sharing and receiving form my devices only. How does Windows 10 know which devices are mine? I have two laptops with the same Microsoft Account and password. Does that set them apart sufficiently so that other devices cannot share? Also, when I am on a public network is Nearby Sharing disabled if I have discovery on a public network off? I set up a Workgroup by renaming the "Workgroup" in Windows 10. I was going to use it for sharing but when I enter it into the "share with specific people" I get the message that it cannot be found. Thanks.

Samuria I had to do some research to understand your answer but I think I now understand enough to believe that my sharing using devices near me will be limited to my devices. If you don't mind one more question. In setting up networking using the tutorial on this fourm I saw that they recommended turning password protection off. I have it on and my two laptops can share on my home private network. It suggests that since my two laptops have the same Windows password they can share with the password protection on. Perhaps that also says that other computers cannot share. Thanks.

Password protection is the safest if anyone did get into a pc they need a password to reach others people recomend it as it can make it hard to share if all pcs dont have the same account

Thanks again Samuria. My goal is to make it difficult or impossible for others to share unless I choose to let them. It helps to know how sharing works so I can use the proper settings. I should be good to go for now.
