Windows 10 pro file/fold across wifi LAN to multiple laptops???

    Good day!

I have a need to work from a desktop, hard wired, transferring files/folders, etc. to 10 laptops connected via the wifi. The idea is, go into window's explorer, drag and drop the file/folders needed onto each of the laptop's D: drive without having to go to each laptop and accept the file transfer. The desktop is technically the admin, but I'm not currently able to see each of the laptops. I've enabled file and sharing from all the laptops, so I'm not sure why I'm unable to see them.

Is there a simple way of doing what I described without purchasing additional softwares?

Welcome to the forum. Netbios is used to see the pcs and its very slow to populate but you should be able to reach them by IP instead of name ie \\192\168.3.11\sharename

You can use cmd line to view pc and get details Nbstat – CMD Commands | Windows Command Line

Simple way is to use a NAS or Cloud storage. 10 machines on WIFI transferring files all at the same time from a single device is going to saturate the network to the point that it will become unusable and not stable. Even with Ethernet, the network will come to a crawl with a lot of clients wanting the same data from a single end-point.

    Personally I would use Robocopy.

Thanks all. As far as the network lull, yeah, I'd be willing to do 2-3 machines at a time, but sitting down at each station accessing the NAS(which I already have), dragging the files, is much too tedious. I'm sure there's a much more efficient way of working. I should be able to sit down at a main pc, that is hooked up to our NAS.

The other issue is, I want to eventually change those laptops to NOT see the NAS as I don't want the users to even see the drives. They don't have access as far as making, saving changes, but still if I can transfer the files from the Mother station, as opposed to having to sit down at each station, then it would be much more efficient and no need to access the NAS drive.

It is a one time deal when transferring. Depending on the NAS, you may have to place it on a manual IP that only you Know. At least with the Synology and other NAS that are made for Small Businesses/Enterprise, you have the advanced settings for security and users/groups available.
