Use Remote Desktop to share 2 displays between 2 PC's on same desk?

I'm trying to figure out a way for 2 PC's to share 2 Displays.

I had thought that maybe there might be an HDMI switch or splitter I could configure and posted my question in the Graphics Cards forum here that is not getting any responses. But in my online searching I came across the mention of using Remote Desktop to have 2 PC's share 2 Displays so that either PC could have dual monitor or each have it own.

I really don't have any experience with Remote Desktop. Is it even availiable in Windows 10 Home or do I need Pro?

Anyone here ever done something like this before?

Or use something like this KVM switch? : https://www.amazon.com/CKL-Monitor-E.../dp/B07KVJ54X2

Seems like it would be a lot simpler to pick up two more displays and make each a dual monitor system. If space is an issue, there are display stands you can but that allow you to stack the displays vertically.

Windows 10 does come with Remote Desktop.

Depending on the ports available on the gfx card and the monitors, it may be possible to use the monitor buttons to switch pcs and display.

On my desk I have a dual monitor pc alongside a single monitor pc ie 2 computers, 3 screens. Screen 3 is connected to both pcs via D-Sub and DVI. When I need my main pc to have 3 screens, I use the monitor button on screen 3.

I've tried monitor switch boxes in the past and found them to be unreliable. Also some switch boxes have the ports on several sides, so the cabling gets a bit of a hassle.

I also use remote desktop to access some headless render boxes. IIRC Pro can access Home, but not the other way round ie Home cannot initiate a Remote connection.

@g725s. So what is the current status of this project? Any luck? Are your systems running Win 10 Home or Pro?

Yeah I've since looked at some of the KVM switches and for 2 PCs and 2 Displays most require a maze of wiring if they use DVI. I wish I could find a simple HDMI one, but there are a quite a few out there it seems. check out this nightmare: YouTube

Still looking and researching. Would like to find a simple HDMI switch of some sort. Or even try remote desktop, and see how easy that would work. Both monitors are the same brand Benq 1440p
Both PCs have Windows 10 Home.

4 displays I feel would be just too impractical. 2 at eye level are manageable. My 2 displays side by side span 50".

For the remote desktop host you either need Windows 10 Pro, or a third party program. Windows 10 Home, by itself, does not host remote desktop, it only has the client side.

The KVM switch you linked uses what is called a “Octopus” cable. One cable with the required connections from computer to switch. Just be aware that some monitors have HDCP handshake issues when using certain HDMi switches. The switch needs to continue what is called a lift voltage to make the monitor believe that it is still active, even though it may not be showing anything at the moment. aif you want multiple monitors active at the same time, you need a Splitter. You can always use VNC.
