Why does local wifi get set to PUBLIC?

    Why does local wifi get set to PUBLIC?


    Win10x64HOME on household wifi along with tablets, phones, her PC, Internet Radios, occassional guests ...

    Ensuring wifi network connection on this PC is set as PRIVATE. After a few days this PC loses some connections. PUBLIC / PRIVATE wifi found to be PUBLIC. Setting back to PRIVATE re-allows all connections. The cycle repeats.

    What could be doing this? AVAST Internet Security is running.

    All other devices are connecting OK as PRIVATE wifi.

    Search "Avast setting WiFi to Public" and you get numerous hits.

    Is this the only device with Avast?

    Do you have any other third party tools for Privacy, cleaning, tweaking that are only instaled on this device?

    Uninstall Avast and see if problem clears.

    Thank you CK. My searches brought up everything but a plausible view into Avast system. It was not clear to me that Avast was doing this. I hope this is now solved as I see now how to set Avast to mark my home wifi PRIVATE.

I have noticed something I think is a little strange. If you install one of the later builds from offline, or where a Microsoft account is not involved, it appears your Local Network will be designated as "Public" even though the correct IP address...
