No valid IP config, BSOD Power State Error, adapter disabled - oh my!

    Hello All,

    Problems:

    1. I have a Realtek rtl8168E network adapter that becomes disconnected from the Internet after waking from Sleep Mode.

    2. Using Windows Troubleshooting reveals that there is "No valid IP Configuration."

    3. When I go to restart the computer (one of the solutions offered online), restarting takes a long time and ends up with a BSOD stating: "Driver Power State Failure" and it claims to be gathering information for a log file.

    4. After several minutes of the BSOD, still on 0% for collecting info for a log file, I push the case button to hard restart the computer.

    5. After computer boots, the Ethernet adapter is disabled. Once enabled, I have access to the Internet.

    Things I have tried:

    1. Check to see if there is an updated driver using Windows (no updated driver(s) found).

    2. Turn off a network adapter option and Check your proxy settings as shown here: Windows 10: Random Disconnect Issue and Fixes - MWEB Gamezone

    3. Perform an SFC scan, Change your Power Settings, Change your Power Plan Settings, and Disable your antivirus software as shown here: How to Fix: Driver Power State Failure in Windows 10 [UPDATED]

    4. Windows Troubleshooting.

So far, nothing works and each morning I come back to the computer, I have to go through the restarting and BSOD and hard restart and enable.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you,
    edsager

This has been a problem since Vista you can often get around it by assigning a static ip to it so it doesnt have to go and get one whe waking up. If your not sure what yo set it to from a cmd prompt type ipconfig /all and post reults

    Samuria~

Thank you for the assistance. I just found and updated the driver(s) for my Network adapter and the entire thing started over again. My computer was not even asleep this time.

I am providing an image showing the results of the ipconfig /all.

    Again, thank you,

If you can run both V2 and DM log collectors with a normal boot then upload results into the threa.

If you cannot run in normal boot then use safe mode with networking.

If you cannot run using safe mode the use safe mode (without networking an command prompt)

For this method on a working computer see if you can copy and paste the log collectors to a flash drive > run the collectors on the problematic computer > copy the files/folders to a flash drive > move the flash drive to a working computer to upload the results

Boot into Safe Mode on Windows 10

    V2 Log collector

    - - - Updated - - -

    DM Log collector

Came into office today to the following error:

"The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors." With error Code: 0x000014c

I used the Win 10 Install Media to try and repair the BCD, which failed, but when I did a hard shutdown and then started the computer booting, my computer booted slowly, but still completely.

    Weird shtuff.

zbook~wow. Thank you. It will be at least a couple of days before I can do all of those things.

Do you think Samuria's suggestion should be done as well?

Samuria~ thank you! 2 hours is the default value for my router and unfortunately, the largest value is 48 hours, so that is what it is now set at.

Do you still think I should assign a static IP address to this computer?

    Thank you,
