Networking issues since upgrading to Win 10 1903. Public settings.

I had everything networking together and working great with Win 10 1809 prior to doing the upgrade. Now I'm experiencing some issues. All PC's have upgraded to 1903 and I don't see the other computer PC2 on my main computer which I'll call PC1. But on PC 2 I'll see PC1 under network and if I click on it I'll see the users folder and if I click that I see nothing in it. I go into advanced sharing settings and turn off public folders is checked off so I turn it on and save the setting. I reboot try again and keep getting the exact same thing. I go back to advanced sharing settings again and turn off public is checked off again. I turn it on again and save it. Bottom line is that I cannot get the setting to save with turn on public folders. It keeps reverting to turn off public folders setting. Am I doing something wrong or is this a glitch with Win 10 1903. Why can't I see PC2 on PC1 but I can see vice versa. Has anyone else had these types of issues with Win 101903?

    Hi.

Please work through this tutorial. Likely SMB1 but plenty of items to confirm.

Thanks. Do you suspect that the SMB1 thing is the culprit? I never had to do that on Windows 10 1809. I just figured the setting would carry over during the upgrade. Have you ever heard of turning on public folder sharing and not being able to save it? I am the only user of these PC's and have full admin rights.

Can't say why SMB1 is potentially off. Could be MS trying to enforce this to reduce client risks. Plenty likely have it on and don't share anything.

Networking sharing, in my opinion needs some real attention by MS. There has to be a thread every two days on not seeing computers in File explorer.

There is the option to map drives or provide specific addressing that both work very well but MS over the years allowed everyone to use file explorer and navigate to location. With SMB1 disabled this option doesn't work. Everyone trying to regain this functionality just opens up the exposure.

While no one wants to see vendors say it is my way or the highway this workaround process frustrates a lot of people. Maybe MS should just eliminate SMB1, on a timeline, and say that is it. Can you hear the uproar that would cause.

No SMB1 here and currently all three PC's are happily sharing at the moment...... However as it doesn't always play nice, I created shortcuts on the desktop to each PC on each PC, rather than properly mapping drives, if you follow, so don't have annoying messages about mapping if they are not all on. This works all the time, also seems to nudge them to appear in networking when they don't. Having SMB1 enabled or not doesn't seem to make any difference here.

I'd never encountered a problem like this. What version of Win 10 are you on? Before updating I had zero issues with networking pc's.

Had the problem on every version of Win10 up to 1903, both normal and insider x 4 different PCs, one now retired.

That's really odd because I didn't have any issues with Win 10 till 1903. How did you fix it if you had the same prob as mine. I'm clueless as to why when I tick turn on shared folders and save it then reopen it and it's now off.

Fixed initially by trying all the fixes on here. Also check your ethernet or whatever network adapters are not set to save power.
Might be an idea to have a look through this at Microsoft Answers? Spotted a couple things I hadn't thought of https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...7-1ef360e9ffdf

I found this when looking thru some stuff earlier. What do you think of this?
