So I disabled everything on my desktop, rebooted, and was able to hit my htpc through \\192.168.1.15\, but it asked me to authenticate again... I just removed all authentication from the share folder, and left it as guest and everyone... not a show stopper but seriously wtf......

On the bad side, right after I connected through the windows+r, i tired to map to the drive but got the "The network path was not found." error once again... /sigh

After running NetBScann the htpc is the master, but I disabled everything on the desktop.. I am about to restart the services and reboot and will run them both again.

Create a local account for sharing. It works better than the Microsoft Live account for sharing. You also have to go through the advanced sharing steps I posted to get this to move forward. Security also has to be adjusted in the Properties of the folder you are wanting to share.

No more Netbios with SMB Direct and SMBv3.x. No need for it anymore. You would have to place the IP and hostname in the Hosts file if you do not want to bookmark or use the IP.
Mapping drives is still supposed to work isn't it?

Yes, once you do the adjustments and make the Local account. I use my OneDrive and iCloud for access across my network and while away from home. I did have a NAS before, but after figuring out the cost of my time and the upkeep and replacement value, it became a no-brainer to use cloud shares exclusively. I have a Gigabit connection with Comcast, so if I need to move a lot of data, I at least can hit up to 54mbps Upstream.

The only device I share to is my NVIDIA shield.

Right, I always hate setting up windows file sharing, it either works the first time or is insanely hard to fix... I have a movie server on this desktop, I might just use upnp at this point.. I would like two drives but it seems something is hosed in my desktop....

I removed all the shares, turned off the sharing on all three, public, private and guest networks, rebooted, turned them back on and reshared the folder, rebooted, and then ran the NetScantool and NetBScanner....

In netbscanner, my desktop is not showing up on the list, in the netscann tool, I again have the "No SMB - Rejected" message. Also when I went through my media folder, clicked grant access, added users and then clicked the show shares button, it loaded up my share in windows explorer.... The folder did show up with a green tube, so that looked good but when I tried to access it locally, it again gave me the "network path no found" error...

any suggestions? Winscp or ftp, ffs, or any way to fix windows shares on this desktop?

Look at a possible SMB Master Browser conflict.

My desktop is not even showing up as on as a SMB client, or browser, its showing SMB is turned off when I did the SMB check...
