Internet Disconnects Once Every Hour Then Reconnects?

    Hi,

    Have a strange issue:
The Internet disconnects once every hour then reconnects?
I notice above because I have HexChat IRC running.
    Any ideas?
I tried two different network cards with same issue.
    Thanks!

    Desktop:
    - Windows 10 Pro 64Bit version 1809
    - Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P (rev. 2.x) Motherboard with newest BIOS
    - AMD FX 3.5GHz 8-Core CPU
    - 32GB DDR3 RAM Memory
    - nVidia GeForce GTX 970 Twin Turbo 4GB GDDR5 GPU with v430.86 drivers
    - 2 x Western Digital 1TB Hard Disk Drives(1 for OS/Apps and 1 for user data)
    - 850watt Power Supply

    HI Jesse.

Run this command to a command prompt )admin)

    ipconfig /all

Within it you should see the adapter you are using with a valid IP address. There should be two line items, Lease Obtained and Lease Expires.

Is it following your 1 Hr pattern. You may have to scroll up to see your adapter.

    Hi,

    Yes it is 1 hour?
    How do I change that?
This is the default of Windows 10? (Seems wrong)
    Thanks!

    This comes from your router.

You should be able to log in and change it.

To do this you need router address which you type in your browser. The ipconfig /all command gave you the IP range you are using in your network. Something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. Use that range and your router is address .1

It will challenge you for user name and password. Assume you set, if not head to net and look up your model. If you use ISP modem router they may change for you.

    Ok, thanks!

I setup a LAN Address Reservation in the router's settings.

    This is strange issue.
When I ran *ubuntu Linux for years the DHCP lease was not an hour.
Seems to be an issue only on Windows 10?

When you say you set up reservations you mean you went into router and reserved or you set them in Windows?

    Have you tried removing reservations?

I set up the IP address reservation in the router's settings.
I did this to solve the once every hour disconnect.

Is there a method to do the above reservation in Windows?
    Thanks!

Cool. Nice to know that reserving fixed your issue.

Is your router supplied by ISP? I would challenge them on 1 hour renewals.

Not a reservation per say, in Windows it is called a Static IP. That is you set the address. Can lead to issues, especially for laptops as it must find the appropriate range when you travel and it might be a duplicate.

The next issue is duplicate IP addresses in home. This can be resolved in your home pretty easy. You tell your router to hand out dynamic addresses starting at 100. So as an example 192.168.1.100. Maybe you start at 150, so 192.168.1.150.

Then you assign static address from 10 to 99 or 149 depending on starting point of router. So first device is 192.167.1.10 and so on and so on to 192.168.1.99

I start at Static at 10 so I can add routers from 2 to 9.

Even if you start at 150 you still have from 150 to 254 for dynamic devices.
