So if i connect my PCs ethernet cable directly to my modem I get about 300mb download.
If I connect my modems ethertnet cable to my router (old router) and then my PC ethernet cable connecting to my router. I get about 70mb download.
I know my router is outdated and old but what kind of router i can get to achieve 250+mb downloads?
my router supports 300mb max
Older equipment had 100mbs ports. Newer ones have 1gb ports and is what you need.

There are a number of factors involved here. Do you have a cable modem?
I would suggest a Netgear or Linksys Wireless-AC router, which have a series of 1 Gb ports built in.
In time you might go wireless and the future proofing will be built-in for just a but more money.
As for models, why do you pick what you like for the price point and post back.
I will then look to see which ones are the best for the money.

Also when you're in the market, pay attention to the numbers such as:
N150 to N450
N600 to N900
AC750 to AC1200
AC1200 to AC1900
AC1450 to AC1750
AC1900 to AC2600
AC3000 to AC5300
AC7200
AX3000 to AX6000
The higher the number, the faster throughput it has. One of the fastest you can get is a AC7200, like this one

You should be alright with an AC2600 router however. Or even a slower AC1900 router at minimum.
Just a note...
Nothing like a hardwired connection, if you like it.
That gives you full-duplex speeds with no wireless lag.
Nobody is forcing you to use wireless.

I would go with the Linksys 1900AC or the 1900ACS. Both are good. The ONLY CON to those is the LED lights dim over time, but Linksys will replace them for free. I had the 1900AC for 8 months, they replaced it with a free upgrade to the 1900ACS. My lights are dimming again, they are gonna replace that one with another free upgrade to the 3200ACM, but I did convince them that the 3200ACM will do the same thing, so they are checking to see if I can get a newer upgrade.
