Hi folks
there's a nice get around to this if you want to use Wifi
1) get USB Lan connector --- only needed if your computer doesn't have a LAN port
2) connect this to a switch -- really cheap only costs a few USD - these usually have 4 - 6 ports for the cheap ones
3)Lan cable from switch to something like a good Netgear Nighthawk extender -- these aren't cheap but they will give full duplex and you'll get wifi connectivity from the Nighthawk extender to your modem /router which can be set now to 5GHZ for the fastest wireless signal -- this is well over your stated 300Mb/s - the current limit is just under 1Gb/s which you won't get in practice but you can easily get around 500 - 600 Mb/s.
Having the switch between computer and extender really does make a huge difference --- I use the extender as I'm in a shed around 100Metres away from my main router - and "She who must be obeyed" doesn't want any more boxes / bits of Lan cable around !!!!! so I'm banished to the shed when testing bits of computers etc !!!!
The typical standard wifi on laptops is only around (max) 54 Mbs unless you have a really modern one with brand new wifi cards that support the ad protocol. The Lan adapter method is by far the best for older equipment.

Hi there
unless you have the most modern wifi cards and an uncontested 5G type of connection (protocol ad) you are unlikely on any sort of consumer grade equipment to get even 1 Gb/s on consistent data transmission on wireless whatever the speed of your ISP connection -- the most usual fast 5Ghz wifi (not not the new 5g broadband with ad protocol) - protocol ac is the current 5ghz standard - will deliver around 500 - 700 Mb/s and not always full duplex either.
