    But what happened before 1903?
The only icons I remember were the current monitor icon with nothing (working fine), cross (not connected) or a warning yellow sign (some problems in the connection). Same with the WiFi icon.

What kind of information those gave you that now the globe icon doesn't give you?

I am asking because I don't know, I've not messed with the networks much.

    There's too many variables.
It depends on how many connections you've established, what kind of connections they are, etc...,

but basically, you'd want to change these five...

    to one of these...

Have the same problem. At work I use Wi-Fi to connect to PLCs through an AP (without internet connection). Before the update I had this:

    Now I have this:

and now I dont know immediately if I am connected to my PLC or not. That update is for really newbies I guess

The new icon means no connection at all, regardless of how you connect. Some devices such as my desktop have a fallback connection such as Wifi but use Ethernet all the time.

The new icon means no connection to Internet. But who cares about Internet ? I am connected to an AP with no internet access. And I dont need Internet at my work. MS s*cks

Wrong. It means that the computer has no connection to the network. If you do not like the OS, there are others out there.

No, the new globe with a forbidden sign icon shows up if there's no internet, regardless of the connection to the network itself. If you're connected to a network that's working fine, but with no internet access, you're going to see the globe icon, instead of the old "connected but no internet" icon

I figured a scheme here would do a better job at explaining:

I agree with you but I'd put it another way.

This is what the system tray ["the Notification area"] network icon looks like in the stated conditions [I use only WiFi]

0 WiFi turned offHow do I enable the old networking tray icons on Windows 10 1903?-wifi-turned-off.png

1 Not connected to any networkHow do I enable the old networking tray icons on Windows 10 1903?-not-connected-any-network.png

2 Connected to a network that does not have internet accessHow do I enable the old networking tray icons on Windows 10 1903?-connected-network-does-not-have-internet-access.png

3 Connected to a network that has internet accessHow do I enable the old networking tray icons on Windows 10 1903?-connected-network-has-internet-access.png

The problem is that states 0 & 1 & 2 show the same icon [so the states are indistinguishable without specific investigation].

Hi, you might find this mildly amusing - or possibly not...
