After upgrade to 1809, Windows XP won't connect to Win10

I have 2 computers on the same network, a WinXP SP-3 & Windows 10. I do not use a password on either computer & logon automatically.

When I had Windows 10 version 1803, I could go to either computer & copy files from one to the other. After upgrading Win10 to version 1809:
    1) When I'm on the Win10 machine, I can copy files in either direction...i.e. I can see my WinXP machine
    2) When I'm on the WinXP machine, it doesn't see my Win10 machine. When clicking on a shortcut to see a portion of Win10, I get this message:

Name:	Network Won't Connect.png
Views:	2
Size:	7.2 KB
ID:	233439
How can I get WinXP to see the Win10 machine again?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi there

    @phrab

you need to change some things

    XP and NAS (Samba) access

Even if you don't use samba (on Linux / NAS systems) you need to change the windows (XP) networking to use SMB1 and the Lan manager authorisation in Windows -- XP can't use > SMB1 !!

    Cheers

Thank you for your response. I looked at the link that you provided (& by mistake, responded there instead of here, so I'm reposting).

However, I'm not using WinXP virtual machine. It's 2 physically separate machines. And it worked fine before I upgraded from 1803.
I found something else. I have shortcuts (links) on my XP machine to several folders on my Win10 machine. Any of the shorcuts that point to Documents or it's subfolders work. However, the 2 that point to my username "Phil" & the Win10 Desktop give me the error message. So I think something changed in Win10 that's preventing it...but I don't know what it is.

right-click on the shortcuts, select Properties and look at the path in the Target field
[which you can select [Ctrl-A}, copy {Ctrl-C} & paste {Ctrl-V} into a text file for ease of reading & using whilst troubleshooting]
    - on your target Windows 10 computer, step through each part of that path in turn by pasting each step into the File explorer address bar - you start by clicking in a blank part of the address bar to select what's in it then backspace to clear before pasting in the step you are checking
    - if one of the sections fails, it implies that the change is at that step so investigate that bit [and post here for assistance if required]

Thanks for your reply. I went to WinXP & here are the targets for each of the shortcuts:
    \\Philscomputer\phil\\Philscomputer\phil\desktop

When I paste these into Explorer in Win10, they work fine. It's only that WinXP somehow no longer can access them & I get the message that I posted above.

Two lines ran together in your post - I assume you meant this
    \\Philscomputer\phil
    \\Philscomputer\phil\desktop

If these work on Win10 but not from WinXP but "the shorcuts that point to Documents or it's subfolders work" do work from WinXP then I wonder how you have arranged your sharing on Win10.
    - I suspect that you have put sharing on your Win10 Documents folder and that's why those shortcuts work.
    - Make the Desktop a shared folder on Win10. I suspect that you have not done so.
    - I also suspect that you have not shared at the level of your phil folder and there is no reason for you to do so if you prefer to share at each subfolder level such as the Documents folder [which is what I also do because it avoids sharing any user subfolders such as AppData unintentionally].

You're right that the 2 shortcuts ran together. It is the \\Philscomputer\phil\desktop that I need to share, rather than the entire Phil folder. Both the Phil & Phil\Desktop folder were shared under 1803, so I'm not sure what changed. I had a lot of trouble setting up the network, since I really am ignorant in that area.

How can I make the Desktop a shared folder on Win10? Could you give me the exact steps please?

Thank you again for your time & help!

This is explained in the tutorial
How to Share Files and Folders Over a Network in Windows 10

While you are doing this you should go to C:\Users\phil\Desktop to set the sharing up

Thank you @Try3. I did go there, but still having some trouble, as right clicking C:\Users\\phil\desktop & choosing Properties/Sharing/Share doesn't seem to find my XP machine when I try to add my XP machine name & Profile.

The tutorial said you should select Everyone

[You could only choose a particular account name if you were only setting up sharing with another user on that win10 computer itself.]

So use Everyone and you'll be able to do it all.

There is no need to write @Try3. Because I have already posted in this thread I get notifications anyway. By adding @Try3 you are making me do more work when I check the forum as that @Try3 call has to be explicitly & individually checked as well.
