My Ethernet connection averages about 320 Mbps download speed. I'm curious as to why when I'm downloading a game of some sort, the speed drastically reduces to about 10 Mbps or so. I don't have any speed limits set in regards to downloading games.
Does anyone have any idea why my games don't download a lot faster?
Your speed test is one thing, short time burst speed; the actual download speed could be throttled by the gaming site...
Is this a recent problem, ie was it good before?
Your screenshot is for Origin, do you experience this downloading from GOG, Uplay etc?
Downloads from large companies are often handled by Content delivery networks like Akamai, Amazon Web Services etc. If your problem is intermittent, it may be that their servers close to you are overloaded, or having a problem.
If you download a lot of AAA games, your ISP might be throttling you for 'overuse' of their bandwidth—those AAAs are tens of gigabytes, way more demanding than say streaming a Netflix or YouTube video.
Sounds like standard ISP bandwidth throttling this does.
I don't have Fibre Optic Broadband so I can't check if I also have this issue. I receive only 15 Mbps ADSL and my download speed is around 2 Mbps which at least we know this is normal in ratio to my connection.
But have you tried setting Origin Application Settings APPLICATION TAB

Make sure No Limit option is checked restart origin and then retry again and see if your download speed is fixed.
I don't agree with Cr00zng about short time burst speeds because if you're receiving over 300Mbps there's no way your average download speed can drop to as low as 10Mbps. With Fibre Broadband usually there is no throttling especially not in the case of Fibre to the Premises. Fibre to the Cabinet, I understand, but regardless I think the download rate in the Origin app is probably capped by default and you have to set to No Limit.
An ISP may have traffic management which may alter the situation with some servers.
The Origin game client like other uses MBs, rather than the Mbs of you ISP.
What yours is showing is 85 Mbs(10.83 MBs) in the Origin client.
Go to the Origin settings and change Download restrictions to No limit.
However even so that maybe limited by your ISP and/or the servers used by Origin. That may vary depending on their capacity and the number of Downloaders at the same time. Capacity costs these companies money.
I get what I should get with Origin but mine is only 8 Mbs(1 MBs), small fish in a sea of sharks.
I just want to thank everyone for the feedback. It seems as if Origin is just throttling my speeds in terms of downloading games. I originally thought that it may have been a problem on my end and I just wanted clarification.
