    Language Bar in Remote Desktop

    Bonjour,
I have a computer that I work with that I access via Remote Desktop. I'm working with two different language and keyboard layout, french canada and US English. The problem is, when I'm connected via RDP, the language bar is NOT available and can't switch from one layont to the other. If I'm connected directly, no problèm. I've have a similar problem in the past where the local language are superseded by the language from the host and so is the lunguage bar behavior. I also remember having changed something on the remote machine to make it work but can't remember what I did, it was in windows 7.

Anyone of you knows how to fix this and make the language bar available ven when remotely connected via RDP?

    - - - Updated - - -

IgnoreRemoteKeyboardLayout what the setting but it doesn`t work with the latest Windows 10 version, 1809.

So I need an option to use the language of the remote server (where I go) and not the one from the server!

You can always use key combination Windows + spacebar to switch between languages.

Language bar setting is available under Settings / Devices / Typing / Advanced keyboard settings - here check the option "use Language bar...

Well, thanks for your time AndreTen but all the usual and basic stuff has been covered. When you connect to a remote Windows 10 machine, Windows assume the keyboard layout and availability from the server(source) superseding the client. Windows 7 used to have the same behavior but you could set up a registry key to disable that particular behavior :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard LayoutValue name: IgnoreRemoteKeyboardLayoutData type: REG_DWORDValue data: 1

But with Windows 10, this setting does NOT (edited) seem to work thus the problem I have with the keyboard layout sstup on my client machine. Unfortunately, I can not configure anything from the server side and need to disable this feature within Windows 10.

Sorry to hear it won't work for you. But I still don't understand, it is working fine for me, and you have access to remote computer (as I understood). Why don't you set language bar options there (you have to have languages installed)

Also docked or undocked language bar is working fine on both client and remote computer. Check that Language bar is not hidden!

But you're right, I'm not advanced user of RDC.. it is just working for me.

One more thing comes to mind.. When you told that you can't switch language with key combo (Win + spacebar), do you have this properly selected?

With default Remote Desktop settings, I have no issues in selecting different language on remote client and host. In screenshot, my remote host is using its default Swedish keyaboard, at the same time allowing me to change it to any other installed language, and my remote client is using its default Finnish keyboard:

Both host and client allow me to set keyboard indepently to each and every application.

Well, I do not understand. The server side is Windows 7, the client side, Windows 10 and no matter what I do so far, when I connect to the Windows 10 machine, I do not have access to any of its language setup! No bar, to winkey+space for, nada!

As I do not have Windows 7 installed on any compuer anymore, I just installed Windows 7 on a virtual machine, then used it as remote client to connect to remote host running Windows 10. Absolutely no issues, languages in W10 available as they should:

Warluck, check if any group policy rules are used on server side. A lot of functionality can be restricted.

Just a thought... On server system check:

Computer Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host
