Network sharing is a real pain

Just installed windows pro 64 bit on both PCs.

Followed a few guides to get setup and turned off that network credentials on both PCs. But when i go on PC 2 and try to access PC 1 it STILL keeps asking for credentials even though on PC 1 i have disabled it.

However on PC 1 i can access PC 2 without it asking me for credentials BUT it wont allow me to access a folder even though i have shared it for EVERYONE!

It's not just Share permissions that's involved. You also need to set ntfs file/folder permissions.

All my machines have a TEMP folder that is shared with Share permission set for Everyone AND folder permissions set for Everyone. I have password protected sharing turned off. Any machine can access any other machine's TEMP share.

Ok thanks alot. What do you mean by NTFS Filer folder sharing? I did share drive C and set permissions for everyone? I can access C drive now on the other PC but then it won’t let me access programs folder even when i’ve gave it full permission and share?

I’ve actually done that password network off on both machines and still it asks from PC 2 to PC1 its ok the other way?

Can someone help me turn that required password (credentials) on a network off? I have been through the guide 3 times now and its set to off

    Thanks

As I said, I share a TEMP folder on each of my machines. It's C:\TEMP

Share permissions are on the Sharing tab, Folder permissions are on the Security tab.

Program folders, user profile folder all have special permissions set and by befault even if your on the pc you cant access them from another user they inherit from above. Sharing drive c with everyone having rights is madness as any malware hacker can run amuck. For drive c there is c$ as a default windows share

Ok, i think I understand better now. I can’t share C drive or program x86 but within them i can share any folder! Because i was able to share a folder within these.

All c and all hard drives are shared by default with a $ is c$ d$ but as it's dangerous it's an administrative share so you need to connect as an administrative name password on the PC your connecting to if both PCs have same administrative login it will be passed by default by windows. Some programs files are owned by trusted installer so you can't access them this is to protect the system start messing with permission and you can put the PC at risk or brick it
