How to determine what network activity is preventing sleep?

yea i have magic packet enabled, but not pattern match as it was causing windows to wake up my sleeping pc for god knows what :P

I have it sleeping now, with shares. All but 1 anyhow.

I have a (U) drive. which is named the same on both pc's. it was also shared on both pc's. It "may" be a conflict due to the drive letter/name matching, or for some reason the share session just wasnt/isnt/didnt close.

could have been a 1 time occurance, or it could be something thats going to occur every time the other pc connects to share.

Gonna have to test further and go from there.

Also going to take a look at Rick's link.

Just came back after waiting my 1m quota for sleep/wake cycles lol. Reminds me of my 1.5 hr quotas testing macrium backups over n over.

Almost there though! I'll be pc problem free just in time for easter :) /fingers crossed.

    thanks for the replies gentlemen.

yep, definitely connected to that ONE drive. Not really sure how thats even possible lol.

I disabled U on both pc's. Just re enabled it on 1 of them. and inside computer management was able to see the other pc automatically connected to it. Was never a thing before, pc's been ran this way for a looong time. Very odd behavior but i digress. Gonna have to test the naming thing now and if that doesnt work. whelp, one of em is getting unshared which is a huge pain. Or a diff drive letter perhaps. Or if theres a way to set an auto terminate sessions after xx time.

havent gotten that far yet ><

    i "think" i got it.

cant check for certain yet because windows search indexer decided to do its thing and is now preventing sleep lol.

My USB stick holds miscellaneous stuff. One of those items being icons for various shortcuts I use. My other running pc insta connected to that USB stick in order to use that same icon for a shortcut over the network as opposed to locally.

I "assume" thats what did it. My gosh some times these problems put you through the ringer. A normal human would just resort to putting the pc to sleep when their done with it.

    Not this savage ocd animal.

But... no doubt you have to carry out a sign-in after any sleep... so a scheduled task - triggered by sign-in/login - to re-map a drive should work, no?

Yes, it would mean a scheduled task triggered by a sign-out task.... but such is the path today with MS changing the rules willy-nilly.

(Do you remember back when MS' focus was to make Windows stable rather than base an OS on shifting, drifting sands?)
