    Can’t stream remotely.

I’m using open vpn to connect to my home network, I have a shared folder with movies pics etc on my pc that has a IP assigned to it.

I use VLC on iOS which can stream from the shared folder when I’m at home but can’t see the folder when I’m away.

Is there a setting that I am missing? The folder has no password.

I use a vpn on my router to allow me to view ip cams without using port forward.

Shouldn’t I be able to use vlc just like I’m at home when I’m connected with my vpn?

Check to make sure that multicast traffic is allowed through the VPN.

I would just use PLEX to stream over internet, safe and easy.

    Hi folks

I prefer KODI as it plays formats that PLEX and even VLC have problems with and if you want subtitles it's so easy to get via a plugin linked to to opensubtitles.org

Kodi also plays DVD / Blue Rays ripped to ISO's directly with full menus etc.

Enable Kodi DLNA - Create a Kodi Media Server - Home Media Portal

Over the Internet this works (Linux) but the same thing should be available in Windows-- I always use Linux for this stuff as it just works

Streaming your Kodi library over the Internet

However this should work for Windows -- not tried it myself -- perhaps you can and report back if it works.
