    Network Discovery turning off

I am a Windows Admin and there is a user who is using a Dell 5530 Laptop running Win10 Pro 10.0.17763. She has access to domain network shared files. When she has the shared files open and the computer locks up, after a length of time and unlocks the computer, the files are not accessible and gets the message that the file is inaccessible because Network Discovery is turned off. Access to the files is restored when the file and file explorer is closed, but it is a hassle to have to close and reopen them every time. I went into advanced network settings and confirmed that Network Discovery is turned on.

Any assistance in resolving this issue is appreciated.

    Hi @nwagner0828
    Welcome to Tenforums :)

    Couple of questions.

    1. is this a home network or a business network ?
    2. is the Laptop on wifi when the file becomes inaccessible ?
    3. how are you sharing ? Via Nas?, a Server?, other windows computers
    through samba ?
    4. is it just certain files or does this happen with any / all files?
    5. Does this happen on any other computer in the network or just this laptop ?
    6. is the laptop unstable overall or is it just in this scenario ?

This is a business network. The laptop is hard-wired in with an ethernet cable. The files are shared on a server. This happens with all files. The issue is isolated to only this laptop. The computer is otherwise stable.

I can't figure out the problem, so I tossed a coin.
    The coin came up heads.
In my admin reference manual, it said "heads = reimage the laptop".
I told the user to reimage the laptop.

BTW, my reference manual also says "tails = reimage the laptop".

    Yours truly,
    BOFH
