"err_name_not_resolved" connect to Internet odd failure

"Windows Update" as well as the Edge and Firefox web browsers are unable to connect to the Internet. "err_name_not_resolved" is the return of these two browsers.

BUT the Comodo Dragon Internet Browser IS able to connect to the Internet and all interaction with Internet locations work fine using that browser.

The Windows 10 computer is connected to the Internet through an Ethernet cable (not Wi Fi).

All the proposed solutions I have seen assume NO connection to the Internet. That does not apply in this odd situation.

    Any tips?

Hi Stillmoving. Welcome to the TenForums @stillmoving

When did this start? What changes had you just made? Did you have any kind of BSOD or other crash.

Might try these resets. Easy first step.

Run the following five bolded commands. Use a Command Prompt(admin) or Powershell(admin)

Do not key in info in brackets, there for your information.

ipconfig /flushdns (Clear the dns cache)
nbtstat -RR (release and refresh NetBIOS names)
netsh int ip reset (reset ip settings)
netsh winsock reset (Reset Winsock Catalog)
netsh interface ip delete arpcache (reset Address Resolution Protocol cache)

    reset DNS server addresses

Thanks for the help. No new software was installed.

What I discovered was that for an unknown reason the network properties were not automatically functioning. The reason the Comodo browser worked while the Firefox and Edge browsers did not is because the Comodo browser routes traffic through its own DNS servers. Firefox and Edge were set to route DNS automatically but that stopped working.

I pressed the Windows key and the letter R, bringing up the run dialog, and typed "ncpa.cpl". In the window that opened I selected the appropriate adapter and right clicked and chose properties. In the window that opened, I clicked once to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4", then clicked the radio button for properties. The window that opened had the network properties. It was set to obtain DNS server addresses automatically by DHCP. But it was not. So I set them to use OpenDNS servers: Use OpenDNS
Then I clicked the OK button and OK and Close. When back at the desktop I closed all open browsers and restarted the computer. Firefox and Edge now connected to the Internet.
