    Bluetooth non-pairing

I bought a new laptop, Dell Precision M4800 which has Bluetooth.
I set my Samsung Galaxy 4 phone next to it and try to pair them to transfer files. However, my phone does not recognise my laptop and my laptop does not recognise my phone. This is my first experience with Bluetooth so I am sure I am missing something or doing something wrong. I wonder if anyone can please help me understand what I am doing wrong (if that is the case)? Bluetooth is set to ON on both machines. I keep getting "No nearby Bluetooth devices found" message.

Incidentally, I can easily transfer files back and forth using a lightning/usb cable.

    Thanks in advance.

Normally bluetooth ony stays on for a short time for security so you have to make them both visable and check quick to find the other which should ask for a passkey
